We're thrilled to introduce the "Shark Tank" initiative for Year 6 classes. Students have created their own businesses, learning about opportunity cost, sustainability, and marketing. They've chosen a company name, designed a logo, and are advertising their products/services using persuasive techniques. Teams have calculated costs, determined break-even points, and are keeping profit and loss records. Our goal is for students to make a profit and use it to treat themselves to a special outing in Canberra. This hands-on experience is cultivating their entrepreneurial mindset and teaching financial responsibility.
Our Market Day is on Wednesday June 26. Students have created advertisements and order forms for families to pre-order products. Order forms will also be sent home with primary students and are also available from the front office. Please order as soon as possible! While products will be available to purchase on Market Day, we recommend pre-ordering to secure your purchase as this allows Year 6 students to plan and ensure sufficient materials. Products will also be available for secondary students to purchase and they will be able to visit the market at lunchtime. We sincerely appreciate the support of families in making this initiative a success.

Students in Year 5 have completed a Unit of Inquiry on Persuasion. Students have researched three different types of persuasion; television advertisements, billboards, and persuasive writing. They have looked at persuasive elements such as persuasive devices, the effects of music in advertisements, colour, sound, slogans and ethos, pathos, and logos, appealing to logic, reasoning, and emotions.
Students have been asked to create their own television advertisements about something in the school that they think needs to change. They have used persuasive devices and the above elements to persuade their audience. Students have also been asked to create a billboard including colour and a slogan to go with their television advertisements. Lastly, students have written a persuasive letter to our Principal informing her of the changes students believe in so strongly. Their letters must include a sizzling start to begin with, arguments with persuasive devices, an elaboration, an example and finish strongly, summing up their arguments.
Enjoy reading the creative letters to Mrs Bennett from our amazing Year 5 students!

28 Year 3-6 cross country champions competed in the State cross country yesterday. Many schools from across the State participated with up to 250 runners in each race!
Big congratulations to all our runners for their determination and for not giving up!
Well done to Jacob Kuiper for coming 20th in his age group. An amazing effort for his first Symmons Plains cross country.
