Health & Wellbeing News

With the school holiday’s rapidly approaching, I thought that this week I would re-publish our Community Sports and Activity directory.  These are all clubs and associations that Jackson School students have engaged with currently and in the past few years.

I have also included another Fitness Activity taken from the Get Active Victoria website.  This is a free website that I would encourage you to join.  In it you will find a lot of interesting Activity and Fitness plans, instructional videos, workouts, fitness challenges, healthy recipes and an evolving collection of trusted articles and information about health and wellbeing.

It has been another busy term on-site at Jackson with an ever-increasing number of students taking part in our Morning Fitness program, funded by the ACPHER and Victorian State Government’s Active School Initiative.  The Morning Fitness Program has this year been expanded to include our VPC students and currently has over 60% of students from each PLT group taking part in sessions.

Another initiative for this year has been the on-site community coaching program.  This once again has been funded by additional funding from the Active Schools Project. In Term 1, coaching sessions in Tennis, Football/Soccer and Hip Hop have been present for Health and Fitness sessions for students from Years 7-10.  This term we have expanded further and incorporated our Year 5 and 6 students. All of the coaches/instructors are from local organisations and are on-site three days a week.  Next term, we will include our Year 3-5 students with the same opportunities.
