SENIOR School

Dear Parents/Carers and Students

As we conclude the first semester of the academic year, I would like to congratulate our Years 11 and 12 students on their productive and successful journey through Semester 1 of their VCE and VCE VM studies. Their hard work and dedication have been commendable, and it is with great pride that we reflect on the many accomplishments and activities that have marked this term.

A Recap of the Term

Throughout Term 2, our students engaged diligently with their academic commitments. Year 11 students tackled their midyear examinations with commendable focus and effort. Simultaneously, the Year 12 cohort participated in Assessment Week during Weeks 8 and 9, demonstrating diligence in their approach to their studies.

In May, our Year 12 students enjoyed a memorable retreat at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. This event provided a much-needed break and an opportunity to strengthen connections with their peers and teachers. The evening trivia competitions were a highlight, bringing laughter and camaraderie to all involved.

Year 11 students showed great enthusiasm in participating in various lunchtime activities throughout the term. The dodgeball and 3x3 basketball competitions were both exciting and competitive, while the lunchtime concert was a delightful showcase of talent, featuring outstanding performances by Unit 1 VCE Music students Sam Dickinson and Imogen Randles. On Thursday 20 June, the Year 11 students and staff gathered at the Mornington Racecourse for a wonderful celebration of Unit 1. The formal was a resounding success, with everyone enjoying the festive atmosphere and the lively dance floor. It was a night filled with memorable moments, marking a perfect end to the first semester.

A special mention goes to Ms Harvey's Year 11 VCE VM students who demonstrated community spirit and organisational skills by hosting The Biggest Morning Tea on Tuesday 4 June. Their delicious egg and bacon rolls and toasties helped raise funds for the Cancer Council, contributing to a worthy cause.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

On Tuesday 18 June, a total of 486 VCE and VCE VM students undertook the GAT. This assessment evaluated students' skills in Literacy, Numeracy, Mathematics, Science, Technology, The Arts, and Humanities. Our students are to be commended for their effort and maturity throughout this important assessment.

We extend our gratitude to Mr Don's Year 12 VCE VM class for their initiative in organising and leading the BBQ held between Sections A and B of the GAT. This event not only provided a welcome break for students but also raised funds for the charity, Variety Australia, demonstrating their commitment to community service.

Careers Education and Course Counselling

Throughout the year, all Year 12 students have a career counselling session with our Careers Practitioner Mrs Sharon Bourne or Ms Michaeli Lyon. These sessions have been taking place since the beginning of the year. Appointments can be made via Mrs Tina Thomas in the Senior Campus Front Office. Year 12 students and parents/carers are encouraged to read Mrs Bourne’s Careers Newsletters available via the Careers website and Compass detailing information about University and TAFE Open Days, the Year 12 VTAC application process and dates and VTAC SEAS and Scholarship Applications. Careers website also available via the Compass star tab.

Year 11 students have started furthering their career and pathway investigations in their Agency Workshops. This focus will continue into Term 3. Please SEE HERE for Careers Course Selection Important Dates. We invite our families to attend the Careers and Course Information evening on Monday 24 June, SEE HERE, Information will be provided about Maths pathways and subject selections for both Middle School and Senior School. This event will be held online, and families can join us during the relevant session times. Sessions will be recorded and available for viewing after this date.

Acknowledgements and Thanks

I would like to extend my gratitude to all VCE and VCE VM staff for their unwavering support of our Year 11 and 12 students. Your dedication to helping our students achieve their personal best and going above and beyond is deeply appreciated. Special thanks go to the Senior School Team: Ms Kelly Mitchell, Mr Jack Barbour, Ms Kate Burgess, Ms Brittany Harvey, Ms Kerryn Elrick and Mr Alex Trickovic, with the support of the Careers Team: Ms Michaeli Lyon, Mrs Jessica Bambridge and Mrs Sharon Bourne, and the front Office Administration Team: Mrs Tina Thomas and Mrs Carolyn McIver. The work these teams put in to ensure the best opportunities for our wonderful students is greatly appreciated.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the holiday period, we encourage all students to enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation. This is also an ideal time for reflection—identifying strengths and areas for growth in preparation for Unit 2 and Unit 4 studies. Year 12 students, in particular, should use this time to review any areas in Unit 3 that may require extra attention, ensuring they are well-prepared for the end-of-year VCAA examinations.

Uniform Expectations

I would like to remind all students of our uniform expectations. Wearing the correct uniform not only represents our school with pride but also ensures a cohesive and respectful learning environment.

All students are expected to comply with the Schools Uniform Policy, which can be found on the school website. This includes wearing the winter school uniform as it is intended to be worn with the white shirt to be worn and collars to be visible. No pyjama pants under the skirt, no jewelry, no excessive make-up and/or accessories are to be worn to school. Students who have a legitimate reason for being out of uniform must provide a parent/carer note to explain the reason to the coordinators in the morning before classes commence to collect a Uniform Pass.

If you have any questions about the uniform policy, please speak with a member of the Senior School Coordinators.

Once again, congratulations to all our Year 11 and 12 students on a successful first semester. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and achievements in the coming term.
