PEER SUPPORT Program

"Over the past few weeks, we have been a part of the Peer Support Program with 50 other Years 9 and 10 students. Through this program we have built our confidence and leadership skills through training sessions, meetings with our group and sessions run with the Year 7 Tutorial classes. During the training got to know the Year 7 students, learnt how to run these sessions and also let the Year 7 classes get the best out of this program. The sessions we have run focused on resilience and communicating well in a team. Going into the classes each week is rewarding as you can see how the Year 7 students are growing in their confidence and are excited for each session. The program will continue to run next term as well as the Peer Support Leaders will continue to build connections and run activities with the Year 7 students." An important part of the program is building the connectedness between the Year 7 student and the Years 9 and 10 Peer Support Leaders. Feedback from a Year 7 student included:

"I think the Peer Support Leaders that come to my class are amazing. It’s fun but we also learn lots. I think they are really good."

The Peer Support Leaders are finding it a great opportunity with feedback from them including:

"I had lots of fun, being a Peer Support Leader this term, it was a good experience to learn new experiences and use my leadership skills"

"A highlight of being part of the Peer Support Program is having the opportunity to meet younger generations (Year 7 students) and being able to help them with any questions they may have about school in general. I have also enjoyed getting to know them and see them outside of class. Some of them have said hi to me and my friends at lunch. It is really heartwarming.”

Recently we held an end of term celebration for all the Peer Support Leaders. The Years 9 and 10 2024 Peer Support Leaders met and reflected on a successful term of the program.  A pizza lunch was enjoyed by all. The program will continue to run next term.
