A note from Mr Jackson

School Times

A reminder that school will finish early on Friday at 2:30pm. I encourage all parents and carers to have their children picked up by the end of supervision at 2:45pm. School will resume on Monday 15 July. I hope the break provides an opportunity for learning and fun with family and friends.

Semester 1 Reports Published

A reminder that Student Reports that provide an overview of student learning in this first semester of 2024 are available on Compass. We hope that they provide a point of conversation for reflection with your child. If there are questions that you might have about the reports, the Three Way Conferences held in Week 2 and Week 3 of Term 3, will provide an opportunity for further conversations.

Security over the Holidays

I encourage anyone who identifies inappropriate trespasses on the school grounds over the holidays to report their concerns directly to the police. As parents are aware, on several occasions we have been the subject of vandalism during these times when our school closes down. While a number of works are scheduled for the second half of the break, TheirCare will continue to use the site over the break.

This week we have had security services in to ensure that the Admin block is fully protected with motion sensors. Students were thrilled to have the workers clear the drains of balls that were marooned on the roof!

Carpark Pedestrian Access Concern

A reminder to all parent that the carpark is reserved for staff cars only unless otherwise discussed with the Principal. A number of parents and students have been sighted walking through this space and are asked to use the gate provided at the top of the drive. For the safety of all, I urge all our community to obey the traffic safety rules both around the school perimeter and within the school boundaries.

Lost Property Available at Assembly

A wide range of unlabelled lost property will be available for collection during assembly on Friday. This includes lunch and drink containers as well as jackets and even socks! We are hopeful that most of it will be claimed by families on Friday. If you have lost such an item then please consider picking up a piece that is unnamed. Much of the leftover plastic containers will be discarded as well. Your support at ensuring items are clearly labelled is greatly appreciated.

School Morning Tea Slice

Thanks to all those who supported the Canteen on Tuesday with the purchase of a slice and drink. The money raised goes towards the costs of running the canteen and providing the service to the community.

There were lots of grinning faces that showed evidence of a hastily eaten chocolate caramel slice on Tuesday.

Extra Curricular Activities Feedback

We are eager to hear back on the experiences of families with the range of extra curricular activities offered at Rosanna Primary School. These are experiences offered beyond the teaching and learning responsibilities of the school. I encourage you to complete the survey several times if your child/ren attend different extra curricular experiences. If your child attends such a program or you have some ideas about other programs please consider completing the survey here. This survey will close at the end of the school holidays.

Chessmates Scheduled Earlier on Friday

With the assembly moving forward tomorrow, the Chessmates session will move forward and take place an hour after school.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy(https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please let me know.

Three Way Conferences: Student Leading their Learning Reflections

On Monday 22 July and Tuesday, 30 July our Three Way Conferences have been scheduled. 56D will meet on the alternative days of Thursday, 25 July and Thursday, 1 August. Parents and Carers are invited to nominate their preferred times using Compass. The meetings will be made available on Compass and a Compass alert will be made to families from Friday at 6:00pm.

The 15 minute Three Way Conference actively involve parents, students and teachers reflecting on student growth as a learner, while acknowledging the most important participants in the learning process – student, teacher and parent/carer. This team looks at the evidence shown in the student’s learning samples and listens as the student talks about their learning growth and goals.

The Three Way Conferences strengthen the home-school partnership and allows children to see their parents and teacher working together with them. The student can provide information to clarify what they have learnt, what are the next steps in their learning, and what progress they are making towards this. The student facilitates the conference and is supported by the teacher when needed. As the student develops in confidence, they require less teacher support.

Throughout the conference, parents and the teacher are encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback and encourage the student to share their thoughts and ideas on what is being presented.

Staffing Strains Continue During Colder Months

A special thanks to all who have pulled together over the term to ensure learning continues in classrooms. Both students and teachers have had significant increases in illness and absences compared to the same period of last year. This increased absence rate is reflected across the region. A range of actions has helped manage through this time. This has included the flexibility of our part time staff who have at times stepped up to increase their workload and the development of dependable and experienced casual staffing team. This has helped make all the difference!
