YEAR 1 SPOTLIGHT

Year 1 Spotlight

Year 1 has had a terrific Term 2.

In English, we have been learning how to write persuasive texts. The students were surprised to enter their classroom one morning, to see that their chairs had gone on strike! The chairs had written the students a letter, explaining that they were tired of not being treated correctly. The letter explained to the students that the only way that the students were allowed to use them again, was if they write a persuasive letter detailing why they wanted them to return and how they would look after them if they did come back. The students spent the morning working in the hall, and created some wonderful arguments to persuade their chairs to return.

We showcased our beautiful singing voices when we competed in the Tamworth Eisteddfod. The Sound of Music rang out throughout the Tamworth Town Hall and we were so proud of the wonderful effort that all our Year 1 students put into their performance, especially all their rehearsals, and there were not too many nerves on the day.

In maths, we were exploring how to calculate length using informal units. Our students had to measure different lengths using general classroom items such as pencils, whiteboards and whiteboard cleaners. The students worked in teams and had a great time developing ways to solve their mathematical problems using their ingenuity.

We have showcased our artistic skills with the beautiful replications of Claude Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’ and Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Pumpkins’, which we are proudly hanging in our classrooms.

We hope everyone has a wonderful time at the school athletics carnival this Friday.
