The Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students have enjoyed the beginning of a Drama unit this term. During week 1, they were exploring Drama using their imagination, creating imaginative scenes and characters in groups. We had children acting as Pokémon characters, pirates, fairies, witches, wizards, enchanted mushrooms and much more. It was very entertaining!
During Week 2, we had a drama lesson celebrating Naidoc Week. We listened and reflected to a First Nations song and read the dreamtime story “Warnayarra the Rainbow Snake”.
We played a great game of ‘Hot Seat’ whereby the children who sat in the seat take on a role of a character in the story. The rest of the class then all ask the hot seat performer some questions related to the story - and they must answer in character. We had some fabulous performers, who were wonderful Rainbow Snakes and Tiddalick the frog characters.
Lastly the children also made ‘tableaus’. In groups, they were to create a frozen scene from the dreamtime story. The children should be congratulated on their impressive efforts to work and perform in groups. Outstanding!
