General Information & Reminders

Year 6 Teaching Team

  • 6A - Anne Hostein
  • 6B - Max Attwood
  • 6C - Sharon Dowling (M, T, W) & Alana Graham (Th, Fr)

Circus Production

Our students will need a base costume for the circus production in August. It might be timely to look for these items while the weather is cold (they might be in short supply as the shops change their seasonal clothing). All students need plain (no logos) - long black pants (leggings/skins/jeggings) and a long black top, like a t-shirt with long sleeves.

Memory Books

Even though the actual album is not needed until Week 8 of Term 4, it might be a good idea to find one to your liking now, rather than waiting and then finding out there are none available. There are two photos below of a suitable example (try Spotlight or Lincraft).

  • It is 30 cm x 30 cm (12" x 12"), comes in a range of different colours and has a photo insert in the front cover. You don't need the photo insert on the front cover, it's just a suggestion.
  • The pages have plastic protectors into which you can slide your coloured paper pages. Try to avoid the self-adhesive type photo albums as they are very fiddly and hard to arrange.
  • Other smaller albums (A4) have been used in the past but these will not easily store a lot of writing and images, etc.

You child might choose to create the final published book online and have it delivered to you (If you choose this option, all of the writing must be approved by the teacher before ordering/printing). All writing tasks will be completed at school and consist of a variety of text forms. They will be checked by the class teacher. The overall learning intention is To create a memory book that reflects the positive aspects of primary school and celebrates you as a student.

Now is also a good time to begin hunting out past class photos and portraits and other artefacts, such as sporting ribbons, awards, etc.

iPads

  • We ask that only school apps be visible on the home screen of a student's iPad. Other home/ game-related apps should be in a folder on another screen.
  • It's very tempting, but please do not message your child during school time. Students are not permitted to message during a school day, consistent with the Department of Education's statewide policy. If you want to pass on a message to your child, this should be done through the main office.

Homework

  • Homework will be posted from week to week and will be handed in via Google Classroom. There will be some exceptions to this during the year.
  • The students will be allocated reading each week and have a response sheet to complete.
  • There will be revision homework for maths and possibly some research homework for inquiry.
  • It is highly recommended that students set up a homework schedule so that homework tasks are not left to the last few nights. This is an important organisational skill necessary for a successful transition to secondary school.
  • Please ask your child to explain to you what the homework tasks are and how they are planning to complete them. It's always a great opportunity to give feedback by reading your child's homework responses before they hand them into Google Classroom or bring them on paper back to school.
  • We expect students to check and edit their work before submitting tasks.
