Year 7 Chemistry
Why do Chemistry when you can do Chemis-tea?
The Year 7 Science class today explored the world of bubble tea through the lens of mixtures and separation techniques. They boiled tapioca balls, chopped up jelly into cubes, brewed tea and created flavoured alginate balls with the goal of making some delicious bubble tea. There was an accompanying worksheet which asked questions on the types of mixtures made and the techniques used at each stage.
The students were focused and collaborative and all of the class agreed that chemistry had never been so delicious.
I would like to thank Josh Willott our wonderful lab technician for helping me do multiple trials of the bubble tea and especially the alginate balls. Thank you also to Jane Hamer from the Food Tech department for her help in setting up and cleaning up during the activity.
