Making the Most of the Holidays
Integrating school and study with other parts of life is important for children and young people (see counsellors’ article in the last newsletter). While we benefit from a healthy balance on a day-to-day basis, the school holidays are also a great opportunity to slow down, unwind, and focus more on things that help us feel joyful, connected, and refreshed.
Making the most of time off benefits our mental and physical health, helps manage stress, improves relationships, and enhances overall wellbeing and life satisfaction. Just as study breaks are important for absorbing, consolidating, and learning new information, holiday breaks provide an opportunity to recalibrate and recharge, enabling us to stay engaged with study, work, and ongoing learning. While Y12 students cannot take their foot off the accelerator completely, engaging with studying in a meaningful way will allow them to make the most of their time away from school. Parents and carers can support their child by helping them create a study plan, and ensuring time for rest and fun is part of their schedule.
Children may also benefit from support in planning activities, interests, places, and people they would like to engage with during the break. Parents and carers can help children nurture a sense of joy, fun, and rest. We wish you a wholesome and refreshing break, and look forward to continuing our support of the Shelford community in Term 3.
