Mental Health Push-Up Challenge

Dear Brentwood community,

The Wellbeing Team are thrilled to share the great success of our recent charity event, "The Push-Up Challenge," organised by the dedicated members of our Wellbeing Team, as well as our partners 'Headspace'. The sole intention of this challenge was to help promote mental health awareness and support, by bringing together students, teachers, and other staff in a display of solidarity and commitment to mental wellness.

The event was a tremendous triumph, thanks to the enthusiastic participation and hard work of our school community. We had over 100 students participate, which is an amazing turnout and we also smashed our goal of 3,249 push-ups easily! 2,431 push-ups were performed by our top 16 students alone!  We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed their time and effort to make this event a remarkable success, especially because of the large significance of the cause. "The Push-Up Challenge" not only showcased the physical strength of our students and staff but also emphasized the importance of mental health advocacy. By engaging in this fitness activity, participants subconsciously lifted the weight of mental health stigma and demonstrated their commitment to supporting those facing mental health challenges.

The Wellbeing Team would also like to congratulate the following students for their participation of the 15-minute challenge.

The task was to complete as many physical movements as possible in 15 minutes, including Push-ups, Squats, Calf raises, Step-ups and Star jumps. The highest number of movements performed was 380 by 2 separate students, which is an amazing achievement. It was great to see so many students competing in a positive manner to win great prizes, such as Four Square Balls, Drink Bottles and Bucket Hats that were by provided the sponsors of the event 'Headspace'.

As we reflect on the success of "The Push-Up Challenge," let us continue to prioritize mental health and wellness in our school community. Together, we can break down barriers, foster understanding, and create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Thank you once again to all who participated and supported this important cause. Your contributions have made a significant impact, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to promote mental health awareness and support in the future.

Thanks, Karissa and Alex, your Wellbeing Captains

Secondary Schools' Parliamentary Convention

On the 21/05 three students from Brentwood participated in the Secondary Schools’ Parliamentary Convention, along with 60 other students from across the state. An, Anais, and Marcus represented the college in a mock Parliamentary Convention which included a parliamentary-style debate on the issue of ‘Should social media platforms be held responsible for the spread of misinformation and fake news?’

This exciting opportunity gave An, Anais, and Marcus the opportunity to simulate passing a bill through parliament and to hear from extremely knowledgeable MPs and lecturers including the current Minister for Education, Ben Carroll. At the conclusion of the debate, participants were called upon to place their vote on the issue with an extremely close 32 affirmative votes and 34 negative votes!

Congratulations to our future leaders in the making, An, Anais, and Marcus on representing Brentwood!

Space-X-plore Tour

Brentwood is looking for students who will be in years 8-11 in 2025 with a passion and interest in space to travel with like-minded students from partner schools in the Waverley network to the USA in September 2025 on the Space- X-plore program with Global Learning Expeditions. This international camp was run successfully in 2023 and is once again being offered to interested students.

Highlights of the trip include the astronaut experience at the NASA Kennedy Space Centre in Orlando, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

For parents we have set up a unique trip page through YouLi (You Live to Travel) for our Waverley network school group via the link below. You are invited to register your details to be kept in the loop regarding an upcoming information session for the trip on Tuesday 29th November at 6pm at South Oakleigh Secondary college, in the Lecture Theatre.  It will also be live streamed so families can log in remotely if they can’t attend in person, details for which will be provided through this link.

Visit: https://youli.io/t/gle/usa-stem-space-tour-mars

Please note registration here and attendance at the information session do not commit you to attending the camp or any financial commitment. At this time, we are seeking interest to see if we have enough students to make the trip viable.

Please find attached a flyer for the program with more detail and costs, do not hesitate to contact myself directly if you have any questions.

Electronic device use at Brentwood Canteen

We would like to thank you for your continued support with the Personal Mobile Devices Policy. We have noticed students trying to utilise their phones as a payment method at the canteen and ask that families look to make other arrangements.

Mobile phones are not to be used at the canteen as they are not allowed to be in use between the school hours of 8.45am and 3.05pm.

Students can make payment via an EFTPOS card or cash.

Thank you for your cooperation.
