Secondary Indonesian

The Year 9 Indonesian class enjoyed trying some “Kue Dadar”, a traditional Indonesian coconut pancake, usually green in colour from Pandan leaves.

Kue Dadar is very popular snack in Indonesia.

There were some uncertain faces in Year 9 before they taste tested!

“Buzzer quiz” is a fun way to test vocabulary recall.

Millie was a fierce quizmaster whilst Nate had the difficult role of judging buzzer speed.

Well done to Scarlett and Lola for bravely challenging Annie’s super brain!

QUEST

Over the last two weeks in Quest we have been exploring God's creativity through His Geology.

We have braved the winds to explore the Cape Queen Elizabeth track on Bruny Island and visited the Mars Bluff Arch. Last week we ventured below the surface to discover the beauty of Tasmania's cave systems and learned how these incredible underground networks and structures are formed.

Phone Use

Unfortunately, I am too often involved in conversations with parents where we need to talk about their child’s near-addiction to their phone, about posts they have made or posts that have been made about them.

This week, all Secondary students were reminded of the following:

  • Phones are to be kept in their lockers and should not be accessed during the day
  • They are never to film or photograph anyone without consent and needing to be mindful of who may be in the background of a shot
  • Never share images of others without their permission
  • That they will be held to account for their treatment of other students online, including outside of school time
  • Take screenshots if they receive abusive, offensive or harassing material from another student and report these to the school
  • Notifications should be turned off on laptops and cameras only used with express permission of a teacher for the purposes of a learning activity.

We encourage parents, especially of younger Secondary students, to set and maintain boundaries for their children in terms of screen use. We also ask them to talk regularly about how technology can be used as a positive resource and ensure they are aware of some of the pitfalls and perils of the online world.

Feeling Overwhelmed

There are times when students may begin to feel overwhelmed by academic demands. It is imperative that at these times, students reach out to the class teacher. As a College, we are taking a firm stand on students not submitting tasks. Completing an assessment task is an important part of learning, as it provides a context for students to apply knowledge and skills. This helps deepen understanding and gives students an indication of how well they have learned new material.

If students are having trouble with a task or are having trouble managing several tasks, they should contact the class teacher before the due date to either ask for some help or to explore options for adjustments.
