Principal's News

 Truth, Love, Service

We acknowledge the Taungurung people,  the traditional custodians of this land and we pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging.

Dear Families,

Celebration of Learning

What a great afternoon last Friday was with our visitors sharing Maths games and activities together.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit, the children and teachers love seeing you in their classrooms.

School Reports

Reports were sent home to parents last Friday through PAM.  I hope parents have taken the opportunity to meet with teachers to engage in conversation around your children's learning and any concerns you may have.  It is also a time to celebrate children's hard work and the progress they have made.  Our last Parent Teacher Meetings are this afternoon.

Attendance: Every Day Counts

When you look at your child's report you will find the area where student attendance across the Semester is recorded.

Good attendance is: 90%

Great attendance is: 95%

It would be fantastic for all students to set a goal for Term 3 to increase weekly attendance to at least 95%!!!  Children are disadvantaged every day when they are away from school, with the exception of them being unwell, where we ask that you please keep them at home even if they are really eager to come.

Seasons for Growth Program

'Seasons'  is an early intervention program focused around learning to live with change and loss. The program is based on the belief that change and loss are part of life and supports young people to understand their grief and make sense of what is happening around them.  Louise Frewen our Catholic Identity Leader and Year 5-6 teacher, has recently completed the training and is very keen to start the first group.  She will work with small groups of approximately 6-8 children that will run for 8 sessions.  We will run different age groups to enable children to participate fully.  The first group will be children from Foundation, Year 1 and 2.  If you feel that your child may benefit from this please let us know.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Our Sacramental Program for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will begin next term. This Sacrament is available to any child baptised and in Year 2 (or above). The candidates will receive the Sacrament during a liturgy on Thursday 5th of September, beginning at 12.30pm.  Louise Frewen will work with the children in preparation for their First Reconciliation.  Please contact Louise Frewen if you would like  your child/ren to be involved.

As we finish the term tomorrow there has been much achieved, the children have worked hard and continue to extend their knowledge in all curriculum areas.  Our focus continues to be on Math and Literacy as part of our School Improvement Plan.  The junior levels have been engaging with Heggarty, a phonemic awareness program, every morning.  Heggarty provides students with consistent and repeated instruction, and this transfers to developing a student's decoding and encoding skills.  From next term all students from Foundation to Year 6 will experience this every day, helping them with their reading and their writing.

THERE WILL BE NO LUNCH ORDERS TOMORROW

School finishes tomorrow at 3:15.  We will have our end of term Assembly in the Mercy Centre at 2:45.  Assembly will be run by our Year 6 Leaders and all families are welcome to attend.

A reminder that there will be no staff on site at school on both Thursday and Friday (pupil free days) as we are taking part in professional learning in Religious Education and Catholic Identity.

For those who need Holiday care, TheirCare will once again provide a program for each day of the school holidays and for our pupil free days.   Information is available at https://theircare.com.au/

Holidays will be a great opportunity to shake the germs that have been lingering over the last weeks.  Stay well and have a wonderful break with your children.

Until next term
