Year 8 into Year 9:

Weeks 9,10,11 

Optima – Career exploration focus As part of their Optima program, Year 8 students will take part in a series of career-focused activities designed to support their transition into Year 9. These activities will help students begin exploring their interests, strengths and future options as they start making informed decisions about their learning pathways. 

Term 2 

Week 11  Wednesday 2 June, period 5 

Year 8 into year 9 course selection assembly   

 

Students will hear from key Learning Area Leaders about the subjects on offer in Year 9. This information will be delivered during a dedicated year level assembly, where students will receive important instructions to guide their subject selection process. 

Term 3  

Weeks 2-3  

Middle School Course Selection conversations and Career Action Plans  Students will take part in course selection discussions and complete their Career Action Plans during their Optima classes. 

Term 3 

Week 4 

Friday 15 August, 4.00pm  

Course Selection due  Final day for course selection to be entered online via EDVAL. Students will be emailed this link in Week 2 of Term 3.   

Term 3 

Week 3    

Course Confirmation Year 8 students will have a brief meeting with a Head of Year, Year Level Coordinator or Optima teacher to confirm subject selections.

Middle School Course Selection information  Middle School course selection information and course counsellor information will be emailed home to parents/carers.  

Term 3 

Week 2  Thursday 31 July, periods 3 and 4 

Middle School Careers Day and the Subject and Tertiary Expo   

 

The Middle School Careers Day is an important day for students to both engage with careers education and course selection information. 

Students will engage in the following program: 

Period 1-Scheduled classes  Period 2- Scheduled classes  Period 3- Careers & Course Information Assembly   Period 4- Course selection activities   Period 5- Expo  Period 6- Expo 

Tertiary Providers Expo and Subject Expo will open to students’ Periods 5 and 6.  Families are welcome to attend from 3.30pm-5.00pm on the Senior Campus.

Middle School Careers Day and the VCE/VCE-VM Tertiary and Subject Expo 

   

The Middle School Careers Day is an important day for students to both engage with careers education and course selection information.

Period 1-Careers and Course Information Assembly    Period 2-Meet and Greet with Careers Counsellor  Period 3-Careers activites  Period 4-Careers activities  Period 5-Expo  Period 6-Expo

Term 3 

Week 4  Monday 11 August   

VCE / VCE VM Taster Day   The VCE/ VCE VM Taster Day is designed to ensure students are well informed about the subject offerings and understand what each subject entails by getting to trial it for a period. It's designed so students and parents have greater clarity around pathways and different subject offerings. Students will be encouraged to trial subjects they are not 100% certain of.

Final day for course selection to be entered online via EDVAL and printed confirmation sheet returned to the Middle School Office.  

 Current Year 10 students undertaking a VCE Unit 1 and 2 subject will need to complete an online application form.  

 Students wishing to undertake VCE-VM pathway in 2025 need to complete the online program intention form. 

Term 3

Week 6  Tuesday 26 of August   OR  Thursday 28 of August 

Course Selection Interviews  Bookings open Tuesday 1 July.   Bookings can be made by parents via Compass. Students are required to attend, and parents/carers are warmly encouraged to join them.
