From Our Principals

Anna-Marie Yelland and Aaron Jones

Dear Families,

We are nearly a month into Term 3, and we're already beginning to think ahead and plan for 2026.

This week, we were excited to send out enrolment confirmations to our 2026 Foundation families. We look forward to welcoming them next term as part of our transition program.

While Foundation enrolments officially close today, if you have a child due to start school in 2026 and have not yet submitted an enrolment application, we kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible. Receiving enrolments early greatly assists us with planning for staffing, resources, and class structures.

As a staff, we have been watching a documentary series titled Great Teaching, Unpacked, which has formed the basis of our staff meetings this term. It has been a joy to view the series together and unpack the instructional strategies that have the greatest impact on student learning. This has sparked powerful discussions and strengthened our commitment to whole-school consistency in routines and norms.

These ideas have also been echoed in our School Improvement Team meetings, where we’ve been refining our professional learning calendar and considering how this aligns with our instructional model and core educational values at OPS. We're excited to continue this important work at our upcoming curriculum day (a reminder: Monday 18th August is a pupil-free day) and to gather insights from our wider community.

If you’re interested, I’ve included a link to the videos we’ve been watching:

I would also like to thank TheirCare for hosting the Sausage Sizzle and Smoothie Bike community event on 25th July. It was a fantastic turnout and a lovely opportunity to connect as a community. A special thank you to Vicky Campbell, Bayside Area Manager, for her ongoing commitment to our OPS community and for striving to provide a service that reflects our values and needs.

Please read below for more important updates.

With thanks,

Anna-Marie

Grandparents Day

ICAS Assessments

In week 4 and 6, students who have enrolled in the ICAS assessments will participate in the exams.

  • Tuesday Week 4 (August 12th) 1130am-130pm- ICAS Literacy
  • Tuesday Week 6 (August 26th) 1130am-130pm - ICAS Mathematics

Aaron Jones will be the exam supervisor.

Students completing the exams do not need to bring anything extra on their assessment day, the school will have all relevant devices and supporting materials.

Student's Food

We’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of students coming to the front office for food during the day. We kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that students bring enough food to last the entire school day. This includes a fruit snack, recess snack, and lunch.

However, if a student forgets their food or does not have any, we will contact families to bring food, if they are unable, we will provide a small item to help them get through the day.

Thank you for your support.
