Kitchen Garden Update
We’re excited to share that our Kitchen Garden program has once again received generous support from Bunnings!
Bunnings Bayswater continues to be a wonderful partner, and this week Trish paid us a visit to see what we've been up to—and she didn’t come empty-handed! She brought along new plastic tubs for bucket use and sturdy metal bins to keep our chook feed dry and safe from pests.
Trish was given a tour by Tahlia and Thomas, who did a fantastic job showing her around. They proudly shared how we cook in the program and all the incredible things our students have grown so far.
Although we missed NAIDOC Week due to the school holidays, we've dedicated the past fortnight to celebrating Indigenous cooking and gardening. The students made ravioli filled with warrigal greens and Indigenous herbs, a pig face salad (which has divided opinions—either loved or not so much!), and some deliciously fluffy lemon myrtle biscuits.
In the garden, we were thrilled to receive a grant from the Victorian Schools Garden Program. We used it to purchase a range of bush tucker plants, which we've planted in the area leading into our kitchen garden. Once they’re flourishing, we’ll be able to step straight out the kitchen door to pick fresh pepperberries, saltbush, and more, for our everyday cooking.
