Principal Report

Continual Growth
Thank you to Kathryn Henderson, who was Acting Principal for the last couple of weeks of Term 2 whilst I was on leave. In the last Blackfish Bulletin, Kathryn highlighted the college’s growth in the Attitudes to School Survey that we are extremely proud of. Further to this, if you have been following our social media account, you will have heard about our success with our learning data - the 2025 NAPLAN results.
As a quick snapshot of our Year 9 students, the data shows that we have achieved outstanding results, excelling in both performance and growth.
Exceeding or Strong Performance
Reading: 62% (↑ 9% above similar schools)
Writing: 59% (↑ 6% above similar schools)
Numeracy: 57% (↑ 5% above similar schools)
Growth (Year 7 to Year 9)
Reading: 80% (↑ 6% above state)
Writing: 71% (↑ 4% above similar schools)
Numeracy: 81% (↑ 7% above state)
These results reflect the growth we are experiencing as an entire school community. I thank all of our students for their dedication, our families for their support, and our teachers for their commitment to helping every learner reach their potential.
Parent Teacher Interviews
We are looking forward to the upcoming Parent/Teacher Interviews on Thursday 11 September (4-7pm) onsite and Friday 12 September (8:30am -12:30pm) online. We are trialling a modified version of our Parent/Teacher Interviews with the intention of increasing engagement from our families. Further information will be provided shortly via Compass.
2026 planning
Thank you to families and students who attended the relevant information evenings late last term/early this term to assist with making informed decisions about subject preferences for 2026. We are well underway with our planning for 2026, which includes determining course pathways and managing the subject selection process for all relevant students. While our students enjoy a wide variety of subject choices, subjects will only run where there are sufficient enrolments, as determined by the Principal. If a subject does not attract the required numbers, students will be placed into one of their nominated reserve preferences.
NAIDOC Week
Students at KWRSC celebrated Aboriginal heritage through NAIDOC week activities. The students had a great time participating in the scavenger hunt during the Humanities classes as the activity was linked to their recent unit of study. The Wellbeing team, Tracey Hamilton, Sarah Williams, and Ashleigh McGrath led lunchtime colouring activities including a ‘Tree of Wishes’, in addition to organising a lunch for the Koorie cohort at our school. The SRC students did an excellent job in supporting the event.
