Foundation Classroom News

Welcome back!

After the school holidays, we’ve been busy settling back into the routines of school life. The students have shown great enthusiasm as we dive into learning about addition and subtraction. We’ve explored number concepts like friends of ten, more, less, equal, adding and taking away. Using fingers, counters and icy pole sticks has helped us understand these ideas in a hands-on way. It’s been fantastic to see how quickly students are beginning to recall number facts with confidence!

In Literacy, we’ve continued our journey learning Spanish letter sounds. This Term we will learn C, Q, J, H, LL and Y. Some letters, like ‘C’, have been a bit tricky with both soft (ce, ci) and hard sounds (ca, co, cu). We’ve also followed a recipe to make Ensalada de frutas, learning the names of ingredients and verbs related to cooking. In English, we’ve begun working on narratives, with a focus on building characters and settings. During reading time, students are strengthening their letter and sound knowledge to decode words, and we’ve been enjoying our class novel by making predictions and discussing events in the story.

So far, a big highlight this term has been celebrating our 100 Days of School! There was so much excitement as students arrived dressed as 100-year-old people or something from 100 years ago. We even saw some wattle-inspired outfits to represent the Guling season. We held a special parade and marked this milestone with laughter, learning, and a strong sense of community. What a fantastic way to celebrate how far our Foundation learners have come! We can't wait to be part of the Book Week Parade in week 5!
