Athletics Carnival – Final Reminders!
Friday 8th August at Harold Stevens Athletic Track
We are now just a week away from our Whole School Athletics Carnival, happening next Friday 8th August from 9:30am to 2:30pm at Harold Stevens Athletics Track in Coburg!
Last week we shared lots of exciting details about this event. Here's a quick summary and some important new updates to keep in mind.
Event Overview – Recap
Students in Grades 3 to 6 will head to the track with their teachers at 9:00am. They will compete in Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, 100m and 200m races.
Prep and Years 1/2 students will attend regular classes in the morning and then walk to the track at 12:00pm to join the fun afternoon games.
District Qualification
Students in Years 4 to 6 will be competing in age groups that reflect District Athletics levels. To clarify:
Events for these year levels will be split by gender, following the same structure used at the District competition. Students who identify as non-binary have been invited to choose the category they feel most comfortable competing in during PE lessons.
Only one competitor per school can qualify in each event. A student may compete in up to two individual events and one 4x100m relay.
Parent helpers
A massive thank you to all the parents who offered to help on the day! I received an overwhelming number of responses and will be in touch shortly with more details and station assignments. Your support makes a big difference!
Timetable and maps
The event timetable and maps of activities are attached below. Please take a moment to look over it so you know what to expect.
What to Bring
Years 3 to 6: Bring lunch, snacks and water bottles – students will be at the track all day.
Prep to Year 2: Students will eat lunch at school, but please pack a separate snack and water bottle in a clearly labelled small bag for the afternoon session.
Dress Code
Students are encouraged to wear their House Colours and comfy sportswear.
Families – feel free to join in and wear your child’s house colour too!
Canteen
The canteen will be open as part of our booking agreement. Please note that unfortunately there are very limited healthy options available. As our Athletics Carnival promotes healthy lifestyles and habits, we kindly ask families to rely on nutritious, home-packed food instead of purchasing from the canteen.
Important Reminders
Fun Relay – Don’t Spill the Coffee!
We’ll wrap up the day with a hilarious adult relay where teams of six will run in aprons, passing a cup of “coffee” (cold water) without spilling! The team that finishes with at least ¾ of the coffee and the fastest time wins House Points! You can still sign up via the final question in the volunteer form: https://forms.office.com/r/0jRTr4GrJs
We can’t wait to see all students giving their best effort, having fun and showing great teamwork this Friday.
¡Vamos equipo!
Yours faithfully,
Raúl - Health and PE Teacher
