In week 5 (August 18th - 22nd) we will be celebrating Book Week with the theme ‘Book an Adventure’. Each year since 1945 the CBCA (Children's Book Council of Australia) has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week. We will be spending one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.
At Sacred Heart we will be celebrating this through the following events:
Design a front cover
Children are invited to submit to their teacher a new front cover for one of their favourite books using the provided template or designing their own. These will be displayed in the library and a winner will be announced for each level on Thursday 21st August afternoon.
Book an Adventure
Each class will have a nominated book which they will read together and create a response to decorate an area in their classroom. On Friday the 22nd between 11:15 and 12:15, grades will rotate around classrooms and listen to these stories.
Cosy Reading Afternoon:
On Wednesday the 20th of August, students can bring in their favourite book, cosy dressing gown, oodie or blanket, slippers or teddy and curl up and read. With a crackling camp fire displayed on classroom whiteboards, it will be a lovely, cosy experience. Students will receive a lollypop during this time. Please see your child’s classroom teacher if you do not give permission for this.
Book Week Parade
We will continue with the festivities with our much loved day of dressing up as a character from one of our favourite books and participate in a whole school parade. We encourage costumes to be connected to books as opposed to TV or movie characters. There will be some crossover, however book connections to characters is important. The parade will commence at 8:50am and parents are invited to stay and watch. Check out this link if you are stuck for ideas!
Performance
On Tuesday the 26th of August, Perform Education will be presenting a performance focusing on the CBCA nominated books for Years Prep - 4. Unfortunately due to space limitations parents will not be able to attend.
While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body.”Mark 14:22
We are excited to share that our Year 4 students will be celebrating their First Holy Communion next term. This is a very special milestone in their faith journey.
The celebrations will take place on the following dates:
Saturday, 23rd August at 5:30pm – St Margaret Mary’s Church
Sunday, 24th August at 10:00am – Sacred Heart Church
Sunday, 31st August at 10:00am – Sacred Heart Church
Please note that for your child to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, they must have already been baptised and have made their First Reconciliation.
We look forward to sharing this sacred and joyful time with our students and their families.
