Week 3, Term 3
House Athletics Day – Monday 4 August
Years 3 to 6 students will be participating in the House Athletics Day on Monday, 4 August at the AC Robertson Athletics Track in Ringwood.
Students will take part in a variety of athletic events, representing their houses and promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.
Please ensure your child is dressed in comfortable sportswear and their house colors if possible, and brings a water bottle, snacks, and lunch.
Permission and payment need to be completed on Sentral prior to the event.
We’re looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled day of competition!

We would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who supported our team during the Hooptime Basketball Competition on Tuesday, 29 July. Your help was invaluable in making the day run smoothly and enjoyable for everyone involved.
All students had a fantastic time, showed great sportsmanship, and proudly represented Wonga Park Primary School. We truly appreciate your time and commitment to supporting our young athletes.

Reminder: Week Three of Gymnastics Program
Week three of the Prep to Year 2 gymnastics program continues this Thursday. Students will build on their skills with new activities focused on balance, coordination, and strength. Please ensure your child wears appropriate clothing on the day.

Prep
This week in PE, our Prep students will continue strengthening their underarm throwing skills, with an emphasis on applying their technique in more dynamic and game-like situations.
During the lesson, students will:
The focus will be on accuracy, teamwork, and maintaining good technique during more active play. These experiences help solidify the foundational skills students have been developing while encouraging communication, collaboration, and enjoyment in a supportive environment.
Year 1 & 2
This week in PE, our Year 1 and 2 students will continue their basketball journey by focusing on passing and teamwork, while reinforcing their dribbling and ball control skills.
Students will:
The goal is to help students connect their individual ball-handling skills with simple team strategies, while developing their ability to work with others in a positive and energetic environment.
Year 3 & 4
This week in PE, our Year 3 and 4 students will continue building on their basketball ball control, with a focus on applying their skills in small group activities and mini games.

This lesson provides a fun and supportive way for students to transfer their individual skills into more game-like scenarios, helping build confidence, spatial awareness, and cooperative play on the court.
Year 5 & 6
This week in PE, our Year 5 and 6 students will continue to strengthen their basketball ball control, with a focus on making effective decisions in team-based scenarios.
Students will work on:
This lesson encourages students to connect their technical skills with real-time decision-making, helping them become more confident, composed, and collaborative players on the court.
What a great start the students have made in AUSLAN this Semester. The students were excited to get straight into signing, what they had remembered and to explore new signs and phrases.
Grade 1 and 2
Grade 1 and 2 students will explore how people who are deaf gain each other’s attention, for example tapping them on the shoulder or moving into their line of sight. They will also revise how to sign 'Good morning, how are you?' and how to introduce themselves to each other. Other feeling signs will be also explored like excited, happy and surprised.
Grade 3 and 4
Grade 3 and 4 students will be revising their greeting signs and extend their alphabet skills with a game of ‘Go Fish’. They will be following simple instructions to play the game with a peer.
Grade 5 and 6
Grade 5 and 6 students will explore the different technologies that assist deaf and hearing impaired people to hear and communicate with a particular focus on the history and development of the Hearing Aid and Cochlea implant.
Prep
Students will continue to learn their production songs; When I Grow Up and Miracle. These tracks can be found here to help practise with your child/ren. Students will continue to learn the actions to both of these songs.

Grade 1 and 2
Students are continuing to learn about drama. They will continue to collaborate on creating freeze frames, using their bodies to tell stories. Students will use their voices, bodies, and imaginations, to create characters again this week but this time in a restaurant setting. In small groups, they will create and perform short scenes featuring characters like chefs, waiters and customers, using movement and dialogue to bring their stories to life. To do this they will need to create and perform a problem for their characters to interact with and solve.
Grade 3 and 4
Students will review their Matilda Jr. songs - Chokey Chant, Hammer, School Song and Smell of Rebellion. They will also learn actions to Hammer and finish learning the actions to School Song.

Grade 5 and 6
Students will review their Matilda Jr. songs;

Grade 6: Bruce, Revolting Children, When I Grow Up, Miracle
They will also learn moves for Revolting Children, School Song and Miracle.

In the classroom this week...
Prep
Students will be having a go at drawing Miss Trunchbull from the musical Matilda Jr, focussing on her facial expression and looking at the shapes that make up part of her body.
Grade 1 and 2
Students will be painting a paper plate in readiness for a weaving project starting next week.
Grade 3 and 4
Students will be continuing their textiles project. They will finish stitching beads onto their calico and attach a stick and ribbon ready to hang.
Grade 5
Students will be finishing off their sea creature picture and transferring the image onto their piece of foam ready for printing. They will also make a background for their work to be printed onto.
Grade 6
Students will be making a gift for their Dad’s for Father’s Day. They will also be working on their 3D names to add to their street art fence.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will have the opportunity to handle and observe real specimens (in resin) using scientific tools such as magnifying glasses and microscopes. They will then create groups based on the observable features of these (once) living things.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will finalise their insect life cycle presentation on keynote, then create a model of an insect, ensuring it meets the requirements of a brief. They will use these models in an experiment that will demonstrate how insects pollinate flowers.
Grade 5 & 6:
Students will continue to explore how changes to an environment can impact the growth and survival of living things. They will observe changes to their seedlings planted last week, and experiment with different conditions to influence the growth of mould on a piece of bread. Students will consider the importance of organisation and safety when conducting experiments.
