Principal's Report
Dear Parents,
As always, it’s been a wonderful couple of weeks at Woori Yallock PS. Last weeks Curriculum day went really well. The teachers collaborated on the use of reader’s notebooks and looked at different and more robust assessment procedures. These days are heavy for our teachers with lots of learning, but that learning is vital to improve the outcomes of our students.
Across the school our kids are just having fun. We are so lucky to have students that love learning. We are also lucky to have kids that embrace whatever is coming up on the calendar. There is always lots to look forward to. At the moment our older students have had lots of inter-school sporting opportunities. For example, Hoop Time is this Friday and we are sending around 160 students.
This week we hosted the Principal, AP and number of teachers from Bairnsdale Primary School. It is always nice to see the interest other schools have in the way we do things at Woori. They were very gracious guests and left me an email saying that they were buzzing with the things they were going to try at their school after seeing what we do. I always feel that we have a responsibility to try and improve the system as best we can.
We are putting together a dance concert for parents to come along and see. Students are busy practicing in their grades. It’s a joy to walk down the corridors and hear the fun, each grade thinks they are the best, but we will see?
When -
Junior School Wednesday 3rd September
Senior School Thursday 4th September
Time – 4pm – 5:30ish.
There is no cost for the night and no allocated seating. Due to the limited space available, if it is at all possible that siblings don’t attend, we would be very grateful. Siblings will get a chance to watch when we have our dress rehearsal the day before. We would also like parents to limit attendance to four per family at maximum. Please be understanding that what we are trying to do is keep the concert at school in our hall so that there is no cost to parents. If we had to hire a bigger venue we would have to charge.
There will be a sausage sizzle ($2.50 a snag) after the concert finishes at 5:30pm. Cake and drinks will also be on sale.
We traditionally have a book week dress up day each year. This year the dress up day and parade will happen on Friday 22nd August. The parade will start at 9:10am. I do understand that we have had a lot of dress up days this year and I apologise to parents if this has become an imposition. However, our kids do love a dress up day and this one is tied to reading.
Our hard working office staff don’t get too many shout outs. But I would like to pat them on the back for being efficient, kind and approachable. I think they are simply the best and we are lucky to have them. If you get a chance to say thanks to Ellen, Jena, Natalie or De. I would be most appreciative.
Have a great week!
Please remember:
It is the perfect time to snuggle up next to the Conara or the Heater and escape to the wonderful world of a book!
