TERM 3 HIGHLIGHTS

What’s Been Happening!

Term 3 has been buzzing with energy and activity at Lilydale High School. Students have enthusiastically embraced every opportunity, showing dedication and a passion for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Here are just a few highlights from the term so far…

🎭🍟 Popstars Rehearsal Treat!

Our amazing cast and crew of Popstars: The 90s Musical were hard at work during their school holiday rehearsal — and were rewarded with a surprise treat!

A huge thank you to Ms Powson for treating everyone to hot chips and potato cakes — the perfect fuel for a day full of singing, dancing, and 90s nostalgia! 💃🕺🎶

We can't wait to see this talented group light up the stage in August! 🌟

🦘🐄What’s Cooking? Kangaroo & Beef Burgers!

On Friday 25 July, students in Ms Jackson’s Year 10 Food and Culture class put their culinary skills to the test by cooking up some mouthwatering kangaroo and beef burgers! 🍔

Not only were they delicious, but they also served as the perfect reward after all the hard work in the kitchen. Great job, chefs! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

📚 Subject Selection Support for 2026!

Students had the chance to explore their subject options for next year at the Subject Selection Fair!

They connected with teachers from a wide range of learning areas, including:

📖 English | 🎨 Arts | 🛠️ Technology | 🏃 HPE | ➗ Maths | 🔬 Science | 🌍 Humanities | 🌐 Languages

To help with their decisions, students also attended course briefings led by Year Level Coordinators during Thrive classes this week, gaining a clearer understanding of the subject selection process and the pathways available to them.

🦓 Melbourne Zoo Visit

On Monday 28 July, our Year 12 VM Personal Development Skills class had an inspiring day at Melbourne Zoo!

Students explored the zoo's incredible conservation projects and learned how these initiatives are making a real difference for endangered species and ecosystems. The visit provided valuable insights that students will use to shape their own community-based projects this term.

It was a fun, educational, and thought-provoking experience for everyone involved. A big thank you to Melbourne Zoo for the opportunity!

☕️🍫 LHS CAFÉ!

On Wednesday 30 July, our amazing Year 9 Community Time Café class returned at lunchtime with a delicious array of treats for students and staff — and what a success it was!

On the menu:

🥪 Cheese & Ham Toasties

🧆 Biscoff Bliss Balls

🌭 Sausage Rolls

🍫 Nutella Slice

🍿 Popcorn

🥶 Iced Chocolates & Iced Coffees

🔥 Hot Drinks

The students did a fantastic job — everything sold out fast!   We’re so proud of their effort, teamwork, and outstanding service skills! 🙌

🌟Duke of Edinburgh – Voluntary Service in Action!

A big thank you to our Year 9 students for their hard work, enthusiasm, and positive attitude – they truly made a difference!

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, students are required to complete 12 hours of voluntary service over a 12-week period. This term, we've partnered with Discovery Community Care in Mt Evelyn, providing students with a meaningful opportunity to support the Yarra Valley community by sorting and organising food donations and collections.

On Thursday, July 29 our students jumped into action, enthusiastically completing a variety of tasks in preparation for the Community Lunch – from baking delicious sultana scones, to designing labels, and carefully decanting honey into smaller jars. Their teamwork and dedication made a real impact, and we were so proud of their contribution!

🌱 Year 12 VM Community Project – Indigenous Planting

Mr Currie’s class rolled up their sleeves and got to work planting 750 native plants along the Wandin Yallock Creek in Seville, helping to support and restore the local ecosystem.

Students did a fantastic job — with plenty of dirt on their hands and big smiles on their faces! 🌱✨

A wonderful effort that will leave a lasting impact on the environment and community.

🌿Exploring Biomes at the Zoology Centre!

Ms Pischiutta’s 9C Humanities class had a fantastic time visiting our amazing Zoology Centre, where they explored the fascinating world of Australian biomes.

During a guided tour with Mike Swan, students learned about the various biomes across Australia, the animals that call them home, and the incredible adaptations that help these creatures survive in their unique environments.

It was an engaging and educational experience that truly brought classroom learning to life!

🦅 WILD Adventures in full swing!

Our fearless group of 10 students from Years 8 and 9 just conquered the thrill of CAVING at Britannia Creek Cave Geological Reserve! 💥

From navigating dark tunnels to solving challenges together, these young adventurers stepped way out of their comfort zones — building confidence, teamwork, and resilience with every step.

This is all part of the WILD program’s mission to equip students with leadership skills and get them ready for the ultimate Adventure Camp. Stay tuned for more epic journeys ahead! 🚀✨
