Infants and Primary

Infants

A huge welcome back to our wonderful school for 2026! Everyone – students and staff – were all excited to catch up with each other and are all happily back into the swing of school life. We warmly welcome all students and their families back to school, including some new faces in our Infants Department.

This year, our Infants teachers and classes are: Ms Nat Downey (Year 1/2) and me. I will be teaching Kindergarten. Our Infants teaching team also includes Rose Arber (Yindyamarra), Phoebe Wood (teaching across our classes), Annabel Scott (teaching across our classes), Lauren Crokett (Library), Carol Harpley (Intervention support) and Denise Corkhill (Learning support). In Primary we have Laura Ewan (Year 3/4), Charlotte Groves (4/5) and Meg McIntosh (5/6 and Primary AP). If you have any questions at all, please reach out to your child’s teacher by contacting them through the front office.

In our Infants Building, we are lucky to have a number of super support staff working with students and staff, and your children will get to know these people well as the term progresses. Gill, Jen, Kelsey and Jayden are working in our Infants/Yindy classrooms, as well as Tess and Vicki providing administrative support.

It was fantastic to see many of our families attending our Meet the Teacher and Welcome BBQ earlier in the term. We always value having our parents, family and community members in the school and encourage all families to become involved in school life as much as possible. This can also include volunteering to help in the canteen and joining our wonderful P&C.

Kindergarten

Congratulations to all Kindergarten students (and their families!) for successfully navigating their first week at school! They are all looking very grown up in their new uniforms and are quickly becoming familiar with the routines and expectations of school. Our Year 6 buddies have been a huge help with this adjustment – assisting their buddies during lunch and recess breaks, playing with them and guiding them in the playground – thank you to them all.

Our Kindergarten students have hit the ground running and are already learning sounds and skills to help them with reading and writing as well as showing off what clever mathematicians they are. A highlight has been our first cooking class this week with Mrs Corcoran when we made delicious fruit and custard pastries – yum! Many of us enjoyed tasting figs and nashi pears from our school garden too. We are all eagerly awaiting the Swimming Carnival coming up on Monday 23 February and hope many of our families are able to join us to cheer on the fun!

Primary

We’re thrilled to share that the year is off to a wonderful start here in the primary section! Across our three classrooms, we’ve introduced our new 3–6 learning norms—consistent practices and routines focused on literacy, numeracy, and daily check-ins. These are helping to create a positive and consistent learning environment for all students.

Our students have adapted wonderfully to these new routines and are enjoying the refreshed learning spaces following our holiday upgrades. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and engagement in these vibrant environments.

We’ve also kicked off our Fundamental Movement Skills program, with a special focus this week on “static balance.” Each day at 10am, all classes head outside for 10 minutes of focused skill-building, practicing through different fun games and activities.

We’re excited about the term ahead and looking forward to our upcoming swimming carnival on 23rd February. Here’s to a great year of learning, growth, and fun!

Kind regards,

Meg McIntosh

 Yindyamarra

Yindyamarra students have had a wonderful start to the new year. They enjoyed checking on their tomato plants, which had grown over the holidays, and tasting the sweet, juicy tomatoes. The students also had their first cooking lesson of the year, making delicious sweet pastries. They were such a hit that students happily enjoyed licking the bowl!
