Mini-Whiteboards: A Small Tool Driving Big Learning Gains at Years 7–10

Across Years 7–10, classrooms are increasingly using mini-whiteboards as part of modern, high-impact teaching practice. They allow learning to be active, visible, and responsive — key features of effective teaching.
Mini-whiteboards are powerful because they:
- Activate thinking before answers are shared
- Make learning visible for every student, not just the most confident
- Normalise trial, error, and refinement
- Allow teachers to adjust teaching in real time
That’s why mini-whiteboards were included on Years 7–10 student booklists — they support the kind of learning we want to see in every classroom.
It would be great if all students were able to supply their own mini-whiteboard, marker, and eraser, so they can engage fully with this approach across all subjects and use the tool comfortably and consistently in class. These are everyday stationery items that are readily available.
Shared classroom sets remain available; however, experience shows learning is most effective when students can use their own board regularly and without interruption.
At under $4–$5, this is a small investment that enables richer feedback, stronger engagement, and more confident learners every day.
If you would like support to purchase a mini-whiteboard, marker and eraser, please get in touch with your child's Year Level Coordinator.
