Specialists - STEM (Mr Brown)

Welcome back to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) for an exciting new school year! I am looking forward to a term filled with curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning.

This term, Foundation students work on the basic skills of STEM, focusing on teamwork, planning and designing. They will be using lego and craft material to construct the plans they design.

Year levels 1-6 will be exploring Chemistry, with a focus on understanding materials and how they change. Year 1 and 2 students will investigate everyday materials, exploring their observable properties such as texture, strength and flexibility, and how materials can be used for different purposes.

Students in Years 3 and 4 will build on this by examining how materials can be combined or changed and will begin exploring how heat and cooling can cause materials to change state.

Students in Years 5 and 6 will investigate solids, liquids and gases in greater depth, exploring reversible and irreversible changes, mixtures and solutions, and how chemical science is used in everyday life.

All students this year will be learning about the design process and I am excited as always for students to ask all those interesting STEM questions, conduct lots of experiments and develop scientific thinking skills throughout the term.
