Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people. May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Start to 2026 School Year

Students have settled confidently into their new classrooms and relationships with their teachers, contributing to a calm, positive and highly successful start to the school year. This smooth transition reflects the strong partnership we share with families in supporting student readiness, alongside our comprehensive Kindergarten to Foundation transition program and well-established multi-tiered support structures for students in Foundation to Year Six.

Our School Leadership Team, including the Learning Specialist, School Improvement Team leaders and PLC leaders, has continued to work collaboratively to strengthen leadership across the school in the absence of our Principal, Kylie Nissen, who is currently on personal leave. The leadership team has provided consistency, care and stability, ensuring a strong and supportive beginning to the 2026 school year.

I would like to sincerely thank our families for their ongoing support and partnership, which plays such an important role in setting students up for success. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated staff for their commitment, preparation and care in ensuring a positive start to the year.

And finally, a big well done to the stars of the show, our students, for the way they have embraced the new school year.

Parking

We kindly remind our school community that disabled parking spaces are reserved for vehicles displaying a valid permit. These spaces are essential in supporting access for members of our community who require them. We ask families to please be mindful when parking on school grounds and to avoid using disabled parking spaces unless eligible. Your consideration helps ensure our school remains safe, inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Communication

At Miners Rest K–6, we highly value the strong partnerships we share with our families. Open and respectful communication is central to supporting our students’ learning and wellbeing, and we welcome questions, feedback and conversations at any time.

Families are encouraged to seek clarification or share information by contacting classroom teachers via phone or email, or by connecting briefly with your child’s teacher at the end of the day or before learning begins in the morning.

We sincerely thank our families for their ongoing support and collaboration, which continue to strengthen the positive partnerships we are so proud of within our school community.

Assembly – Badge Presentation Ceremony

On Friday 13th February, we will host our Badge Presentation Ceremony for our 2026 School Leaders. The assembly will commence at 2:30 pm, and we warmly invite all families to join us for this important occasion. Please note that Junior School Councillors will receive their badges once the election process for these leadership positions has concluded. A presentation date for badges for our Junior School Councillors will be advised in the coming weeks.
