Screener Interviews

Thank you to so many of you who took the time to come in and do the screening interview. This is really going to help the teacher understand a lot about your child so that they can ensure maximum growth going forward.

How we learn at TRPS

Our teaching approach is guided by Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. This research-based framework ensures that every student has the best opportunity to master new skills and build confidence.

  • We review our learning daily
  • We present learning using small steps
  • We practise together after each small step
  • We answer lots of questions to show what we have understood
  • We practise together until we are accurate
  • We practise independently when we are ready
  • We retrieve previous learning so that we don't forget

In our Grade 2 classrooms, you will see these principles in action through:

  • Daily Review: We start our lessons by revisiting previous learning. This strengthens "mental muscles" and ensures students are ready for new concepts.
  • Small Steps: We introduce new material in bite-sized pieces whilst teaching familiar concepts. This prevents students from feeling overwhelmed and helps them achieve success.
  • High-Quality Questioning: We ask lots of questions to check for understanding.
  • Guided and Independent Practice: We use the "I Do, We Do, You Do." First, the teacher models the task, then we practice together as a class, and finally, students work independently once they feel capable.
  • Check for Understanding: We use regular "check-ins" to see how students are progressing, allowing us to provide immediate support and feedback.

By using this framework, we create a supportive environment where learners can strive to reach their full potential.

Our first week in Grade 2

In our first week of Grade 2 we focused on routines and getting to know our teacher and class. We learnt all about expectations and daily routines through our learn-to-learn program. Some of the things we learnt include:

  • How to line up in roll order
  • how to exit and enter the classroom
  • how to use zero hero’s when walking through the school
  • pack up routines
  • school values
  • how we learn at TRPS

Summer Hats

Learners are still expected to wear hats this term. If they do not have a hat during playtime they will be asked to stay in the shade. Please ensure that your child has their hat at school every day this term.
