Principal News

Welcome back!

It has been  so lovely to welcome our existing and new students to the 2026 school year. We have 144 students enrolled this year across seven classrooms. An extra special warm welcome to our 24 Prep students who began their school journey with us this week.

Welcome also to our new families and we trust that you will love being a part of the Lockington Consolidated School Community; please reach out to staff or existing parents with any questions you may have- everyone is only too happy to help.

New Curriculum  Area

Those of you with eagle eyes will have noticed that we have STEM listed as a specialist curriculum area this year. At present this is replacing LOTE (Indonesian) due the resignation of our qualified Indonesian Teacher, Hayley Whelan. The school leadership team will explore the best options for our school in terms of a LOTE program and we will deliver a P-6 program in Semester 2.

In the meantime, we are excited to be able to offer weekly STEM sessions for each of our grades. Mrs Meagan Portwine will lead the students through a range of activities and learning tasks that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, with a little bit of Mathematics linked in. Stay tuned for STEM updates in our newsletter each fortnight and no doubt on our Facebook Page.

School Council

A new year sees us needing to form a new school council. Members typically serve a two year term on council (but are welcome (and encouraged) to re-elect once their term has ended). This year we have 6 members who have completed their terms and we therefore have the following vacancies:

  • Parent Member-  5  vacancies
  • Staff Member- 1 vacancy

We invite anyone who is interested on nominating for School Council to call the office so we can arrange for you to complete a nomination form. In the event that we have more nominations than we do vacancies, we will hold a School Council Election (all parents are eligible to vote).

Key Dates for the processes are:

EventDATE
Notice of election and call for nominationsMonday 2nd  February 2026
Closing date for nominationsMonday 9th February 2026
Date by which the list of candidates and nominators will be postedWednesday 11th February 2026
Date by which ballot papers will be prepared and distributed (if required) Friday  13th  February 2026
Close of ballot (if required) Friday 20th February 2026

If you have any questions about school council membership or the processes please contact the office. Information about School Council and the roles and responsibilities of  the council can be found here: https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/school-council-overview/overview

Our first meeting of the year is on Tuesday February 24th and we will elect our office bearers at this inaugural meeting of the 2026 School Council. This meeting will be held at the school and commence at 6pm.

That's all for this week, Lisa Duffy
