Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people. May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.
Welcome Back!
We are delighted to welcome all students and families back to school for 2026! We hope you have enjoyed a restful and enjoyable holiday and that you are as excited for the year ahead as our staff are.
A special welcome is extended to our students and families who are joining Miners Rest K–6 for the first time this year. We look forward to building strong, positive partnerships with you to support and engage your child/ren throughout their learning journey.
There is much to look forward to in 2026, with many opportunities each term for our school community to connect, participate, and celebrate together.
Staffing Updates – 2026
We are excited to welcome several new staff members to MRK-6 in 2026:
- Jessica Booth – Year 1 Teacher (B5)
- Charissa Johnson – Co-educator, Kindergarten
- Rebecca Mahoney – Kindergarten Centre Manager
- Elliot Bushell – Education Support Team
We are also pleased to welcome back Casey Simpson and Megan Polson to our specialist team.
Assessments
We sincerely thank our families for taking the time to book and attend important assessment sessions at school before returning lMonday. These assessments give teachers the opportunity to meet individually with each child, familiarise them with their 2026 learning environment, and gather valuable information to support each child’s learning needs in literacy and numeracy.
Hats
Just a reminder to all of our families that the Department of Education requires school staff and students to wear a broad-brimmed hat from September 1 until April 30. Children without an appropriate school hat from Wednesday, February 4 will need to play in a designated, shaded space in the playground. We thank you for your support in ensuring your child is sun safe at school.
School Crossings
To help keep all students safe, we encourage families to remind children who walk or ride to and from school to use the designated school crossings located on Howe St, Albert St and Dundas Place. Using these crossings supports safe habits and helps our crossing supervisors keep everyone visible and protected during busy times of the day.
Assembly – Badge Presentation Ceremony
On Friday 13 February, we will host our Badge Presentation Ceremony for our 2026 School Leaders. The assembly will commence at 2:30 pm, and we warmly invite all families to join us for this important occasion. Please note that Junior School Councillors will receive their badges once the election process for these leadership positions has concluded. A presentation date for badges for our Junior School Councillors will be advised in the coming weeks.
We are so excited to welcome everyone back for the 2026 school year!
