Performing Arts is HERE!

We are so excited to have Performing Arts (PA) commence at the school from Foundation to Year 6. The Performing Arts room is located in A block and is across from our Visual Arts room, creating a great little 'arts precinct'. The STEM room is now located just down the corridor (still in A Block), so Mr Wilson can still build students' essential digital technology skills in years 3-6.

Our new Performing Arts teachers are Mrs Katie Murphy and Ms Stephanie Carroll.

Performing Arts is an important part of learning in the primary years and plays a key role in supporting children’s overall development. Through Dance, Drama, and Music, students have opportunities to be creative, express themselves, and build confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0, Performing Arts helps students to:

  • Build confidence and self-expression
  • Develop communication and teamwork skills
  • Strengthen creativity, imagination and problem-solving
  • Grow resilience by practising, performing and reflecting
  • Develop a strong sense of belonging and wellbeing

Whilst we have only had one week of this at our school, we can see that the learning is hands-on and engaging. Students will learn by moving, singing, acting, listening and creating. These experiences help children understand their emotions, connect with others, and develop empathy, while also supporting learning in Literacy and Numeracy.

Performing Arts also gives students opportunities to take positive risks, share ideas, and feel proud of their achievements. Whether working in a group or performing in front of others, children develop skills that support success both in and beyond the classroom.

Performing Arts as a powerful way to support the development of the whole child, academically, socially and emotionally, which will help every student find their voice and inner 'star'!

Next week, we will update the community about Auslan

(another exciting new opportunity at the school).

(Please note; whislt specific dates are listed above, due to the online format, 'catch up tests' can be arranged as required)

More detailed information, including individual testing schedules and times, will be shared closer to the testing period
