Principal's Report

Beginning Of Term 1:
Principal's Report
Welcome to 2026 at South Oakleigh College
As we commence another exciting year at South Oakleigh College, I warmly welcome all students, families and staff to 2026. I extend a special welcome to our new Year 7 students and to those joining our community across other year levels. Beginning at a new school is a significant milestone, and we hope your transition has been smooth and that you are already feeling a strong sense of belonging within our College.
I have been especially impressed by the way our Year 7 students have embraced the opportunities and challenges of secondary school. The move from primary to secondary education is a major step, and our comprehensive transition program has been designed to support students academically, socially and emotionally. Guided by our core value of Resilience, our newest students have approached this change with positivity and determination, setting a strong foundation for their learning journey.
Following our recent School Review, we are proud that it reaffirmed our belief that a genuine sense of belonging underpins positive wellbeing and successful learning. Our transition programs, student engagement initiatives and extensive co-curricular offerings are carefully designed to ensure every student feels known, valued and supported.
Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to explore their interests and talents through our Instrumental Music Program, successful Debating Team, sporting carnivals and representative sport achievements, School Promotions Team, and our growing range of clubs and activities. These opportunities, alongside our strong academic programs, enable students to build confidence, form lasting friendships and develop a deep sense of pride in their school community.
At South Oakleigh College, we recognise that strong partnerships between families and the school are essential to student success. By working collaboratively, we create a supportive environment where students can explore their interests, develop their skills and make meaningful connections between their learning and the wider world. We encourage parents and carers to actively engage with the College through our Year 7 transition events, Year 8 engagement programs, Middle and Senior School Information Evenings, Careers Expos, VM activities, sporting events and ongoing communication opportunities. Together, we strengthen the connections that enhance student learning and wellbeing.
As we begin 2026, I encourage every student to embrace the many opportunities available at our College — whether through academic challenge, leadership, the arts, community involvement or sport. Each pathway offers the chance to grow, to contribute and to strive for personal excellence.
I look forward to celebrating the achievements of our students, both individually and collectively, throughout the year. Together, as a connected and supportive school community, I am confident that 2026 will be a year of continued growth, achievement and shared success.
