Art News

Last year the Friends of Performing and Visual Arts Parent Group donated money towards enhancing the STEAM courtyard. With the help of Eleanor Risley, Milena Kraemer and Naomi Livermore we designed a colour palette artwork. Many of the Year 7s from 2022 took part in the project by mixing and applying the colours. They learnt about primary and secondary colours as well as tints and shades. It is now installed in the courtyard space for the benefit of all. Thanks to our Maintenance Team and the Arts staff who helped complete and install the work.

Year 8 Pencil Cases

Students in year 8 Materials Technology classes were introduced to the design process by redeveloping an existing product, a timber Pencil Case. Students designed and produced their Pencil Case from recycled pine decking with an acrylic lid, using a range of tools, machinery, and processes, incorporating housing joints and laminating timber, and a design laser engraved into the lid. Students were required to demonstrate safe use of tools and machinery, including the Belt Sander, Disc Sander, Orbital Sander, and Palm Router.

Year 9 Model Houses

Students in year 9 Systems Technology were given a project to introduce them to Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and the emerging technologies of Computer Aided Machinery (CAM). Students learnt how to use various 2D sketching functions in AutoDesk Inventor to design the floor plan of their dream house, and 3D modelling functions to extrude their walls and create doors and windows. Students realised their design by 3D printing into a 3-dimensional prototype.

Year 10 Jewellery Boxes

Students in year 10 Materials Technology were introduced to the design process by sustainably redeveloping an existing product, a Jewellery Box. Students designed and produced their Jewellery Box from recycled hardwood timber, using a range of tools, machinery, and processes, incorporating dovetail joints and laminating timber. Students were required demonstrate safe use of machinery, including the Bandsaw, Belt Sander, Palm Router, Orbital Sander, and Thicknesser. This unit is similar to the requirements of VCE Product Design and Technology Unit 1 “Sustainable Product Redevelopment” they will study next year.
