Thank you to Peter V-W, Peter and Claire A, Cindy and Val for giving part of their Saturday to run the BBQ stall at school on voting day on 14 October. The BBQ was well run and received by the local community coming through. There was a constant flow of people voting and buying egg and bacon rolls and sausage in bread. All food was sold and $465.60 was fundraised for our school which will go towards a new swing for the secondary play yard.
We recently appointed a staff member in an NDIS Navigator role. We warmly welcome back Libby Anderson who will be working with us two days a week fulfilling this new role.
The NDIS Navigator role is a new Department of Education initiative to support and build parent/carer capacity to understand, advocate for and access appropriate NDIS funded support services available to their child/ren. Over the coming weeks, we will provide more information on the specific supports available to you and let you know how to organise some time with Libby.
On Wednesday 6 December, from 5 to 7pm we will hold our Showcase and Shine whole school community event. We encourage all Croydon SDS families and carers to save the date to attend, to join the celebrations of student growth and the great year that it has been. Student work will be on display and there will be a variety of activities for students and their siblings, parents and carers to participate in.
We have commenced work on our 2024 planning. We will have 13 classes next year:
As per previous years, student placement in sections is considered on a number of factors to best meet individual and cohort needs. Student age, social, emotional and academic levels and learning styles are some of the areas taken into account.
We are planning for four specialist programs next year, this is one more than this year. This provides students with a broadened opportunity to access the curriculum through hands on and active learning experiences. Our school review data clearly highlighted that our students prefer and are more engaged through active learning.
We are currently working on our workforce planning for 2024; we hope to let you know soon the 2024 specialist programs; In the coming weeks we'll also announce our 2024 staff profile.
Monday 6 November is a Curriculum Day. Teachers will be working on report writing on this day. This is a good opportunity for students to have a mid term break and have a rest and enjoy some family time over a 4 day weekend.
