In Term 4, students will continue to develop their love of Literacy through a range of tasks that build skills.

In Reading:

  • They will build literal and inferred understanding and analyse texts critically by drawing on growing knowledge of context, language and visual features, print and multimodal structures to support comprehension and understand the author's intent.
  • They will continue to develop fluency, characterisation & expression using tools such as Reader's Theatre.
  • They will investigate non-fiction texts to gather and sort information that will assist them with our inquiry into the changing states of matter and the associated scientific language.
  • They will use their reading skills to make connections between texts and themselves, their prior knowledge & the wider world.

In Writing, students will work through explicit spelling lessons revising prior knowledge of morphemes, suffixes, prefixes, syllables and vowel teams. The students will revisit the narrative genre to help further develop an understanding of how to create richer narrative pieces of writing. They will explore idea generation, investigate character development, and revise language tools such as simile, metaphor and personification to engage and connect with the readers of their writing. They will develop an understanding of how to write a scientific report to follow the process of their investigations. This will include describing the aim, hypothesis, materials, method, observations and conclusions.

In Speaking and Listening, the students will work on giving and receiving peer feedback identifying language that can be used for appreciating texts and the qualities of people and things.
