Preparing for our Athletics Carnival

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Our whole school Athletics Carnival is being held in Term 3 on Wednesday October 25th. Students are already participating in athletics events in PE classes so that they are familiar with the activities. The high jump is very popular from Years 3-6 and a throwing competition between 5-6 classes has created some healthy rivalry.

The sport of Athletics provides a range of events for everyone. You can run, jump, throw, pass a baton in a team or balance an egg in the egg and spoon. It provides a good basis for all sports at all levels. It also creates a supportive competitive environment where everyone is encouraged to have a go and cheer loudly for their house team mates.

Students can practice at home in their backyard seeing how far they can throw a variety of objects or how far they can jump.

How fast can they run over 20 metres?

Can your son or daughter beat their parents?

What happens if you drive your arms faster at the start?

Will your times improve?

Perhaps you might like to try a relay competition: Kids vs Parents.

Enjoy some carnival preparation together as a family and we look forward to seeing lots of supporters to cheer on our students in October.
