Semester Two Merit Assemblies

Towards the end of the school year, we held our Semester Two Merit Assemblies for each year group. This was an opportunity for classroom teachers to acknowledge and celebrate publicly the students who have demonstrated excellence in their learning over Terms 3 and 4. Year advisers also announce the recipients of the gold, silver and bronze medallions.

Heroes With Ability Sports Gala Day

Heroes With Ability is a charitable organisation with the aim of giving people with disability the opportunity to play sport. They have been delivering their Schools Sports Program for our L.E.A.P. students once a fortnight that focuses on movement, fun and exercise.

In Week 6 this term, our junior L.E.A.P. students participated in their Schools Sports Gala Day competing against hundreds of other students with special needs from eight other schools. In the end, our L.E.A.P. students were triumphant in taking out the HWA Schools Varying Abilities Shield. Congratulations to our participating L.E.A.P. students for a job well done and thank you to our teachers and support staff as well as the volunteers and community organisations for ensuring the day was a success.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Excursion to Sydney Zoo

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school-wide framework designed to assist in the improvement of social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for our students. This is achieved by reinforcing school systems, structures and processes that form the foundation for continuous improvement in student behaviour, academic progress, and effective teaching practices. An area of focus this term is student attendance, and as a postive reinforcement, students who have met or exceeded specific attendance targets were invited along to visit Sydney Zoo.

Academic and Sports Ceremony

In the last week of the term, our high school community gathered for the grand finale of the academic year—the Academic and Sports Ceremony. The school hall was decorated with balloons and banners to celebrate a year of hard work, achievement and dedication.

The ceremony included heartfelt speeches from our principal Mr Prasad and year advisers acknowledging the collective efforts of students in each year group. The stage was soon graced by a procession of talented individuals, each receiving well-deserved recognition, be it academic excellence in earning first place in subject, sports prowess, or outstanding service in representing Merrylands High School.

The ceremony not only marked the culmination of a year’s academic journey but also served as a reminder of the resilience and spirit of our high school community. Bring on the adventures for the next school year!
