PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

It has been a fantastic Term 3 with so many exciting things happening across our Milgate school community. In addition to the incredible academic learning that has taken place across the school, students have developed a range of other integral learning skills through participation in camps, sporting events, excursions and school learning activities. Thank you to all staff, students and parents for a very successful term of learning at Milgate. We wish everyone a wonderful, happy and safe holiday break.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

FUN RUN - FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER

Milgate Primary School is running an exciting Fun Run online Fundraiser to assist us in raising funds towards upgrading our playgrounds. Our students are seeking online sponsorship for their participation and efforts on the 27th of October for our school Fun Run. All funds raised will go towards this exciting project!

This is a large-scale project, and we couldn’t continue to enhance our school environment without fundraising and the support of our extended community. Fundraising also gives our children a sense of empowerment from being able to work as a large team and contribute towards a common goal.

How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!

Thank you for your support and we look forward to a fun day!

YEAR 1 INCURSION

This week we invited Emily (Aria’s grandmother) into the school as an expert in Japanese floral art (Ikebana). The Year 1 students have been exploring how cultures can use art to express ideas and stories. Emily visited our school and created a number of works in containers in front of the students. She used flowers from her own garden and even brought in some of her hand made vases (called containers). While she was creating her pieces, she was answering questions making it engaging and a wonderful opportunity for students to ask an artist at work.

YEAR 1 DINNER AND GAMES NIGHT

On Thursday, the Year 1 students had their Dinner & Games Night. Students had lots of fun participating in different Tabloid Sport rotations. They then had a pizza dinner whilst watching a movie. Students had a wonderful time, and we thank all the parent helpers for their help in making the night a success!

FOOTY DAY

We loved seeing everyone dressed in their sports colours on Tuesday. A lovely way to celebrate AFL finals and the end of term. Thanks to Cody, Willy and the JSC for their help organising the day.

TERM 4 | HATS

A reminder that students are required to wear their school hat when outside during Term 4.  Please ensure your child's hat is clearly labelled. Students who do not have hats will be required to sit outside the canteen under the shade sails during recess and lunch. Thank you.

STREET LIBRARY

We are excited to announce that our Street Library has been installed! Our wonderful Visual Arts Leaders Vicky and Elon have finished the design for our new Street Library and have done an amazing job!

What are Street Libraries?

Street Libraries are a beautiful home for books that are accessible from the street, and are an invitation to share the joys of reading with all members of our school and local community. Books come and go; no one needs to check them in or out. People can simply reach in and take what interests them; when they are done, they can return them to the Street Library network, or pass them on to friends.

If anyone has a book or two that they think others would enjoy, they can just pop it into any Street Library they happen to be walking past. They are a symbol of trust and hope, and ours is located on Landscape Drive near our staff carpark. We hope you enjoy it!

KISS AND DROP - SERPELLS ROAD

We are excited to announce that Manningham Council will be making permanent changes to the drop off zone on Serpells Road. These works have been years in the making as our school has worked hard to find the best solution for our community. Please see the letter below from the Council and the concept plan.

Pick up and drop off facility at Milgate Primary School on Serpells Road

13 September 2023

Dear parent, property owner or resident,

Milgate Primary School will soon have a formalised pick-up and drop-off facility to improve

traffic flow and safety.

After working with the school to design and implement a temporary trial facility, we have

seen significant benefits to child and pedestrian safety, and traffic flow in the area.

We have engaged Kaizen Civil Pty Ltd as the contractor to construct this facility. They have

a proven history of collaborating with us on civil works projects and delivering quality

outcomes. We’re confident that their expertise and experience will contribute to the

successful completion of this project.

The school has agreed to support the project, and we plan to construct it during the school

holiday period, from 18 to 28 September 2023.

While there may be some noise from construction activities, our contractor will make every

effort to minimise the impacts on nearby residents and the community. Property access

will not be affected, and a traffic controller will be onsite to assist you in entering and exiting

any properties adjacent to the works area.

We have provided a concept plan of the proposed facility on the next page for your

reference.

If you have any questions or comments about the proposed design, please get in touch

with Manningham Council on 9840 9333 or at manningham@manningham.vic.gov.au.

NEW SIGNAGE

Today we had some new signage installed on gates around the school. Over the holidays we will have some larger pylon signs installed too which we look forward to seeing when school returns. We would like to thank our School council and School Leadership Team for their work in planning and designing these signs that will enhance the school's visibility, making it easier for parents, visitors, and students to find their way. The new school signage not only improves functionality but also creates a more attractive and welcoming educational environment for all.

ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE

Congratulations to 3CF for being this week’s trash free Tuesday winner and having 2 pieces of trash! They will receive ’Ernie the Earth’ our environmental mascot. Overall, as a school we got 159 pieces of trash. Remember to keep up the great work in Term 4!

We are looking forward to officially starting our composting program at Milgate Primary School on the first day of Term 4. We can’t wait to see the impact that it has!
