VET Tasters Program (Coburg)

In late Term 3, our Coburg campus hosted a series of afternoons that welcomed students from other schools to attend a try out a VET subject in one of our four Coburg VET workshops. Our Year 10 VET Tasters program is designed to give young people an idea of what a VET subject might look and feel like and provide an opportunity for them to experience the LHCS school setting. It gives students a chance to consider enrolment in a VET subject as they move into their senior secondary years. In our Term 3 Tasters, students were introduced to basic VET workshop equipment, processes and expectations. They are provided an opportunity to talk with VET subject teachers about the structure of VET studies and potential post-secondary pathways.

Term 3 Advance Camp

In late Term 3, students involved in the Advance Program headed out to Creswick for a half-week camp. It was great to see students from different year levels participating in activities together and challenging one another in positive ways. While the weather was inconsistent, what was assured was the enthusiasm shown by all to be part of the experience.

Below (as captions on the photos) are some of the things said by students and staff as reflections on the camp.

Crate stacking challenge!
"A challenge was when the rain was coming and getting through the tasks, and a credit to the students."
"My shout out it to the staff who just made it happen."
"It was a great camp and everyone was chillin!"
"A challenge was sleeping through Harley and Jack snoring."
"Shout out to the camp staff."
"A challenge was the fire smoke getting in my eyes."
"Thanks Sascha, for making room on the camera's SD card"
"My highlight was Rick's shoe falling in the mud."
"Every activity that we did was really fun."
"Really noticeable was the good will and care that everyone obviously had for each other"
"My highlight was taking all the photos on camp."
"I liked when we were on the click and climb and we pretended it was dangerous. It was comfortable just hanging."
"Camp with juniors was fun and I have only had a camp with seniors before"
"Shout out to Billie and Lila for coming on the trip."
"A challenge was tryng to get the camera to focus."
"A shout out to everyone for being kind and respectful!"
"My highlight was watching the crate stacking" and well done on the team work and smashing the camp record!"
"My highlight was the giant swing and going backwards and upside down."
"Shout out to everyone for learning team work and communication ... and to Teddy for being Teddy."
