NUNGA TAG

The annual Nunga Tag Carnival is the biggest Aboriginal community event in Southern Adelaide. The event has been running for the last 10 years and it continues to grow with the strong support of the community. It is a Rugby Tag carnival for ATSI students in Years 4 - 6. This week on Wednesday 27th September, we had a team of 6 students. The students enjoyed the games and played against Christies Downs P.S., Port Noarlunga P.S., McLaren Vale and Moana P.S. The students were excellent representatives of the school and their skills got better with every game, scoring several tries. They showed the values of the school and had a great time.

KIDS ON COUNTRY

Our Year 4-6 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have been invited to attend Kids On Country next term. Kids on Country is a Kaurna cultural activity day which is taking place on 1 November 2023 in the Adelaide Park Lands.

This hugely popular event, which is in its fourth year, focuses on Kaurna Culture and allows an opportunity for Aboriginal students to walk on their Country and learn about and share their Culture with their classmates. Examples of previous Kaurna Cultural activities include:

  • Kaurna Welcome and Smoking Ceremony
  • Cultural bush tours
  • Cultural artefacts and stories
  • Wodli/Shelter building
  • Aboriginal art and boomerang painting
  • Weaving
  • Music and dance

A note will be sent out at the beginning of next term, when I have the final arrangements.
