YEAR 2 SPOTLIGHT

A famous artist once said, “Books train your imagination to think big” and didn’t Year Two’s Book Week costumes sure live up to that quote. From sports players to magical creatures and all of those in between, Year 2 had a magical day showcasing their favourite books and creative imagination to the school. So much thought and preparation went into our costumes, thank you to everyone that assisted.

Along with this enchanting day, year two was lucky enough to go exploring among the shelves and paintings of our wonderful regional gallery and library. Here, we got to see the breath-taking stories of this year’s Book Council of Australia winners and short listers whilst also getting up close and personal with a wind turbo machine to help use have lift off on our own paper helicopters. We were so lucky to be able to view and explore all the remarkable artwork at the gallery.

It’s always an amazing time in Year Two where you can don a lab coat and turn into a scientist or put on a beret and create your own kind of masterpieces.

YEAR 4 SPOTLIGHT

Year 4 Science and Technology: Changing States!

In Year 4 this term we have been learning about the different states of matter and how you can move between them (melting and freezing). We have participated in many exciting experiments testing how you can change states… but we all agree the most fun we have had was making ice cream in a bag! Please enjoy looking at the slideshow (Warning: it might leave you feeling very hungry!):

STAGE 3 CSO DEBATING COMPETITION

This week our St Nicholas debating teams competed in another round of debates for the Stage 3 Debating Competition.

Georgie O'Halloran, Irvan Kaur, Ivy Thomas and Ariel Pannan had their debate yesterday. St Edwards Primary School travelled to our school and parents came to watch the live debate. The topic was "That Australia should close all of its zoos." We were the affirmative team. After a very hard fought debate, our adjudicators Mrs Doyle and Mrs O'Sullivan declared the negative team the winners. The girls should be very proud of how far they have come with their debating this year.

Today our other debating team consisting of Klara Bunnemeyer, Lucinda Crockett, Lacey Hutton and Eve Sedon debated via zoom against St Xavier's Gunnedah. The girls were the affirmative team, arguing that "Australia should close all of its zoos." The result for this debate was that St Nicholas were declared the winning team. Congratulations girls!
