At the meeting on Tuesday 1st August the School Uniform Policy was ratified by the Council.

School Uniform Policy

Introduction:

A uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their school. Issues of equality, health and safety, and expenses are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the Dress Code.

Aims and Objectives:

Our policy is based on the notion that a school uniform:

Promotes a sense of pride in the school
Engenders a feeling of community and belonging makes students feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance

Uniform

We expect a high standard of personal appearance and very much appreciate parents/carers' support in achieving this. All students are expected to wear the appropriate agreed school uniform at all times in school and for educational-related visits and events in the appropriate manner.

All items must conform to the published uniform in terms of colour and style. They must be the official school items that can be purchased through the school’s uniform supplier. No replacements accepted.
All items of clothing must be clearly labelled and marked with the student’s name.

Compulsory items

Children are to attend school wearing these compulsory items of the school uniform, as indicated:

Students are exempt from wearing their school uniform on Uniform Free Days. Families will be given prior notice by the school of these dates and attire guidelines for such days.

Shoes:

We require all students to wear black school shoes as stated in the uniform list.

Shoes must be all black, soles included.

Students are to wear runners/trainers on sports days.

Hair:

All students with hair below collar length must have it tied up using hair ties of the appropriate school colours - navy blue or yellow.

All hair must be pinned away from a child’s face so that it does not impede their vision

Accessories:

A wristwatch and earrings that are plain silver or gold studs or sleepers are the only accessories that are part of the school uniform
Necklaces of cultural or religious significance may only be worn, and these should be kept inside the student’s shirt, these will preferably have a fine chain
Nail polish and make-up are not permitted
Hair accessories should be in school colours, navy blue or yellow or plain black.
During term 1 & term 4 hairstyles should not impede the wearing of the school hat.

Cold weather Accessories:

During the colder months, you might feel the need to provide your child with some more protection from the cold.

Scarves should be in navy or yellow colour
Gloves should be navy blue in colour
Beanie caps are to be navy blue in colour
Raincoats/jackets should be navy blue in colour

The Uniform Shop sells school beanies, scarves, gloves and winter jackets.

The Role of Parents

We ask all parents who send their children to our school to support the school uniform policy by sending their children to school correctly dressed and ready for their daily school work.

Parents and guardians are required to support the School in upholding St Michael’s image and ensure their child abides by this school uniform policy.
