100 Days of Prep
This morning, our Prep students proudly celebrated their 100th Day of School, marking 100 days of learning, growth and friendship. The celebration began with a special parade, where students proudly showed off their creative 100 Days of Prep outfits to their families before returning to their classrooms to enjoy a range of fun, hands-on activities.
Year 3 Science Incursion with Ms. McCarthy
The Year 3's were very lucky to attend an exciting Science Incursion with Mrs. McCarthy in the science labs! The students explored the fascinating world of rocks, minerals, and soils, learning about their important role in sustaining life on Earth. They became young scientists as they used microscopes and magnifying glasses to closely examine different samples, investigated how rocks reacted when dipped in vinegar, and participated in a range of engaging hands-on activities.
It was wonderful to see everyone asking thoughtful questions, making observations, and discovering just how important rocks, minerals, and soils are in our everyday lives. We had a fantastic time learning through exploration and investigation!

Year 6 Girls AFL Division Finals
On Friday, our Year 6 girls proudly represented GNLC in the Year 6 AFL Division Finals. The team played four matches throughout the day, recording two wins, one draw and one loss. Unfortunately, one scheduled match could not be played as the opposing team did not attend. Throughout the day, the girls displayed outstanding positivity, resilience and excellent teamwork. They consistently encouraged one another, demonstrated great sportsmanship and represented GNLC with pride both on and off the field.
The girls finished the tournament in second place. While they were unfortunately unsuccessful in progressing to the next stage of the competition, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts, determination and the way they supported each other throughout the day. Congratulations to all of the girls on an outstanding tournament and for being wonderful ambassadors for GNLC.

Year 6 Energy Exhibition
As part of their How the World Works inquiry, our Year 6 students have been exploring how energy is produced and consumed, and the impact different energy choices can have on our Earth. Working in small groups, students planned, designed and built LEGO cities powered by a range of energy sources, with a particular focus on renewable options and their environmental impact.
The showcase provided a wonderful opportunity for students to share their understanding and innovative ideas with our community. Rich discussions with Year 4 and 5 students and teachers encouraged everyone to consider sustainable energy choices and the issues that impact our daily lives. Through shared learning, our students became advocates for a cleaner, greener future.

Year 3 Students Receive Aussie of the Month Award
During Primary Years Assembly, Emilia and Julie from Year 3 received 'Aussie of the Month' certificates in recognition of their initiative in voluntarily picking up rubbish around the school yard. They have also started a rubbish collection club to encourage others to get involved and help keep our campus clean.
Their kindness, leadership and commitment to caring for their school environment are a wonderful example of how even small actions can make a big difference.
Keep Reading, Keep Discovering with the Premiers' Reading Challenge
We are thrilled to celebrate that more than 100 students from Good News Lutheran College Tarneit have now successfully completed the Premiers’ Reading Challenge! We’d love to see that number double before the challenge ends! There is still plenty of time to keep reading and adding books to your child’s reading record. Our College Library has a wonderful range of Premiers’ Reading Challenge books, and your child’s Library Teacher would be more than happy to help them find and borrow books from the list.
To ensure all books can be verified, the final day for entering books read on the portal is Thursday, 3 September. Need a little help accessing or navigating the challenge website? Please email Rebecca Moore - moorer@goodnews.vic.edu.au.Happy reading!

Celebrating Language, Identity and Culture (International Baccalaureate)
At GNLC, we celebrate the rich language profiles that make our learning community unique. As an IB World School, we recognise that students’ languages, cultures and experiences are valuable strengths that contribute to our shared learning.
During our How We Express Ourselves unit, one Year 5 student, Anureet Kaur, bravely took on the challenge of creating and delivering an inspiring speech in her mother tongue, Punjabi. Through her choice to share her ideas in Punjabi, she demonstrated agency and confidence while celebrating an important part of her identity and culture.
When conversing with Anureet about her presentation she reflected,
'I expressed myself in my mother tongue (Punjabi) and that made me feel special and unique. This was a great opportunity to speak in my language at school, and I felt it represented my identity. My speech was about the ups and downs in life and how we all experience them and don't have to do it alone. I was a knowledgeable communicator because I could use the knowledge of my mother tongue and speak with confidence about an important topic.
My family were really proud and felt connected to my learning. They shared my speech with family members overseas too! Opportunities like this help strengthen the connection between school and home, while encouraging students to see their languages as powerful tools for communication, expression and connection. By valuing and celebrating our students’ mother tongues, we nurture a learning community where every learner can feel a strong sense of identity, belonging and pride.
