Principal's Report

We are now well into Term 3, and there have already been many fantastic activities and events taking place across the school.
Our students have participated in a wide range of excursions and incursions that have enriched the curriculum and provided valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom. Highlights recently have included the Reptile Show as part of Science Week, students visiting an art exhibition at the Islamic Museum in Thornbury, and our Year 7 students attending an Innovate Leadership Day in the city.
Year 9 students have also been particularly busy. As part of their English studies, students participated in a Romeo and Juliet incursion that brought the play to life and supported their understanding of Shakespeare’s work. Students involved in the Year 9 Full STEAM Ahead program visited Whittlesea Tech School, where they learnt about designing machines as part of their Rube Goldberg projects. Year 9 students also travelled into the city to participate in the Road to Zero program, exploring road safety and the factors that contribute to safer roads and communities.
It was also great to see such strong attendance from our Year 9 and Year 10 students and their parents and carers at our recent Course Counselling and Subject Selection Days. These are important opportunities for students and families to consider future pathways, make informed subject choices and plan for the next stage of their learning.
It has also been great to see so many students and staff dressed in pink today. Our Year 12 Captains have taken the lead in organising our Wear It Pink day, raising funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
It has been wonderful to see the school community getting behind such an important cause, and I congratulate our Captains for their leadership and organisation.
In addition to the many learning opportunities taking place, our school grounds and facilities are looking fantastic. Eighteen classrooms across the J, M and S blocks have received new tables and chairs, and each of these areas has also had new sliding doors installed.
New synthetic turf at the front entrance has helped create a neater and more welcoming approach to the school.
We are also very pleased to see the much-anticipated new double volleyball courts being installed this week. These courts will provide an excellent new resource for our Physical Education program, while also giving students another sporting option during recess and lunchtime.
Thank you to the many staff who continue to organise and support these opportunities for our students, and to our students and families for the enthusiasm with which they participate.
Warm regards,
Neil Baillie
College Principal
