Walk Safely to School Day
We’re excited to be taking part in the National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD)! This important annual event in Australia, supported by the Pedestrian Council of Australia, encourages primary school children to walk, wheel, and commute safely to school while building healthy lifelong habits.
The upcoming event will be held on Friday, 22 May 2026.
WSTSD promotes active lifestyles, improved mental wellbeing, reduced traffic congestion around schools, and increased awareness of road safety. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families and schools to work together in supporting children to become safe, confident, and proactive pedestrians.
On the day, we will be welcoming students at the school gate with free fruit and fun tattoos to celebrate their efforts. Our fantastic Wellbeing Leaders will also be there to greet students, offer encouragement, and congratulate those who have made the effort to walk to school.
We would also like to graciously thank Michaels Fresh Food Market, along with their produce suppliers Just Fresh, for generously donating the fruit for this event. Their support helps us make the day even more special for our students.
Walking to school—even for a short distance—has many benefits. It helps children build physical fitness, improve focus for the day ahead, and develop important road awareness skills. If walking the entire way isn’t possible, families can try a “Park and Walk” approach by parking a few blocks away and walking the remaining distance together.
Safety remains a key focus of this initiative. Children under 10 are advised to hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road, and we encourage all families to take this opportunity to discuss road safety and precautions, such as using designated crossings, staying alert to traffic, and making safe choices when near roads.
We look forward to seeing many of our students getting involved and enjoying the benefits of an active and safe start to their day!
