Principal's Message

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open Evening yesterday. It was wonderful to see so many new and existing families across the school, engaged in learning activities, exploring classrooms, and celebrating the incredible work of our students.
There was a genuine sense of excitement and celebration in the air, with perfect weather adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the evening. It was particularly pleasing to see such a strong turnout, with significantly more families attending than last year, reflecting the growing interest and pride in our school community.
A huge thank you to our teachers and staff for the time, care, and effort that went into planning engaging activities, preparing classrooms, and showcasing student learning so beautifully. Your dedication and professionalism helped create a highly successful evening and a wonderful experience for our families and visitors.

At Box Hill North Primary School, we use School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) to help create a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels confident to participate, whether in learning, play, leadership opportunities or social interactions.
SWPBS is an evidence-based approach used in schools across Australia and internationally. Research shows that schools implementing SWPBS effectively see improved student wellbeing, stronger relationships, increased engagement in learning, reduced bullying and behavioural incidents, and a greater sense of belonging for students.
At BHNPS, SWPBS focuses on explicitly teaching and positively reinforcing the behaviours and social skills students need to be successful at school. Rather than assuming children automatically know how to manage every situation, we teach expectations clearly, model them consistently, and celebrate positive choices. This helps students feel safe, supported and successful.
Our school values of compassion, ambition, courage and creativity underpin this work every day. Students are recognised for demonstrating positive behaviours through our SWPBS “Eggs” system. Students earn Eggs when they display our school values and positive learning or social behaviours. Every ten Eggs earned becomes a Chick, and every ten Chicks becomes a Bird added to our whole-school Celebration Tree. Once students collectively earn 40 Birds, the school celebrates with a whole-school Celebration Day, planned by our Junior School Council as a reward for the positive behaviours displayed across the school community.
Our Celebration Tree is filling up quickly, with only 14 Birds remaining until our next whole-school Celebration Day. It has been wonderful to see students working together to contribute positively to our school community and take pride in demonstrating our values every day.
