Traffic Management
Sailani Avenue
As a community, we are experiencing ongoing difficulties with traffic management along Sailani Avenue in the afternoons, coinciding with the conclusion of the school day.
Specifically, vehicle drivers parking/standing in the ‘No Standing’ outside of the school. Whilst this section of the road adjacent to the College boundary looks like a convenient place to pull up and collect a child, when this occurs, the road narrows to a point where two-way traffic is no longer possible, creating further congestion. If larger vehicles need to pass like a Transperth bus or charter bus for sport which occurs each afternoon, movement becomes near on impossible, further adding to the congestion and frustration for community members.
Whilst the College is in contact with the City of Perth to help identify this ‘No-Standing’ section of Sailani Avenue, there have been a number of orange cones placed out along this section to help identify this section of the road for drivers.
As a community, the following suggestions will collectively help improve the current situation.
Park a short distance away from the area between Gates 7 and Gate 8 outside of the Cultural Centre, and arrange for your son to walk, or walk to the gates yourself for the younger children.
Arrange for a pick up time which is slightly after the congestion immediately after the final school bell. For Year 7 to 12 students, it may make things easier to ask your son to attend to books/lockers and other business for a few minutes and then arrange for a 3.15/3.30pm pick up. By then, many drivers collecting Junior School students with a slightly earlier finish time to the school day have now left.
Encourage older students to utilise public transportation or cycle to school.
I wish to affirm and to thank the majority of drivers who continue to place safety first, are courteous and follow traffic signage, and conduct themselves in an exemplary manner, setting a wonderful example for our students.
Warm regards
Mr Brendan Chapman
Vice Principal
