House Athletics

We had great weather on Tuesday for our House Athletics Sports Day and it was great to see a good number of students in attendance. The day ran smoothly, albeit with some new processes in place, but everyone was able to adjust quickly and knew where to go for their events.

Well done to Vicky Levesque for managing her first Aths Day, and a big thanks to all the staff that helped make the day run as efficiently as it did. Due to the 3000m being run next week, we are unable to announce the age group champions. Initial results put Bogong in the lead, followed by Feathertop and Hotham. However, things may change once the 3000m even has been run! We'll publish the photos and a write up in a future newsletter, but for now here's some of our Year 12's pictured at the end of the day. They dressed up, showed up, jumped, ran and threw for their houses. Their role-modelling and leadership were very much appreciated.

Welcome and Thankyou

Two new Education Support staff started with us at the start of this term and will continue until the end of the year.

Jessica Tilley took on the small library position, working on Wednesdays. Kristy Henville has taken on the student support and teacher aide position, working on Thursdays. They have taken to their new roles well as it seems like they have always been there!

David Honeybone was filling both of these positions during Term 1 as a casual replacement. While David was interested in these roles, he accepted a position at Tawonga Primary School for the rest of the year, meaning he was not able to continue with us. Congratulations, and thanks, to David for stepping in and helping out for Term 1.

Upcoming Important Dates

Education Support Staff

World Education Support Personnel Day falls on Saturday 16 May this year. ES staff play a vital role in schools, supporting the students and staff, or managing various areas that require expertise. We have a number of ES Staff working in our school and their knowledge and support is highly valued. If you get the chance to say thank you to them, please do!

IDAHOBIT

The International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) falls on Sunday 17 May. This day is important to raise awareness about the ongoing violence, discrimination, and health inequalities for the LGBTIQA+ community, while celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion. Our world is made up of many different people and everyone should be able to feel safe, heard and valued.

Careers Week

Careers Week is being celebrated from May 11 until May 17 this year, and the key theme is 'Connect. Create. Thrive'. It is an initiative of the Career Industry Council of Australia and aims to celebrate the vibrant world of careers, shining a spotlight on career development, essential services, and the dedicated professionals who guide you on your journey. Effective career development can lead to many economic, social, and personal benefits.

Education Week

This year’s theme for Education Week is 'showcase your school' and is from May 18 to May 22. It encourages us to recognise the contributions our staff make to schools. This is a wonderful opportunity to remember just how amazing our small school is; everyone works hard to provide the best learning opportunities and environment for our students. Our size means we know every student’s name and most of their families as well. We get to know each student as an individual, meaning we know what helps them learn and can develop trusting relationships which also helps learning. We live in a beautiful part of the world, surrounded by fresh air, fresh water and mountains, where being outdoors can help to keep us healthy, physically and mentally.

Sometimes, teenagers are less willing to invite their parents to come down to school. However, if you would like to visit and have a look at what goes on in our classrooms, please feel free to drop in for a small guided tour; not necessarily just during Education Week!
