In FEM, we learned about how unique and diverse our brains are and explored what life can be like for people with neurodiversity. We learned some of the ways we can support our brains and recognise our superpowers like:

-Taking deep breaths

-Wearing headphones

-Being in nature

-Listening to music

-Movement

Grade 1/2

Grade 1/2K learnt how to write in Braille.

1/2S celebrated International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) with a meaningful and inspiring lesson. We began by reading two wonderful books that highlighted and explored different disabilities. This led to a thoughtful conversation where we shared our curiosities and worked to deepen our understanding of disabilities. Next, we watched an incredible video by artist Tom Yendell, who demonstrated the power of creating art using only his mouth and feet. Feeling inspired, we tried creating our own artwork the same way. It was challenging but also so much fun, and we learned a great deal. 1/2S is proud to respect, celebrate, and support all our friends with disabilities!

Grade 3/4

Year 3/4 International Day of People with Disability: Artistic Expression and Empathy

In recognition of the International Day of People with Disability, our Year 3/4 students participated in a creative art project inspired by the work of Tom Yendell, a renowned Mouth and Foot Painting Artist. The activity provided students with the opportunity to explore different methods of artistic expression by using their mouth, foot, or non-dominant hand to create a piece of artwork. This project aimed to deepen students' understanding and empathy for individuals with disabilities, encouraging them to reflect on the challenges faced by artists like Tom Yendell. Through this experience, students gained valuable insights into the importance of inclusivity and resilience, celebrating creativity and perseverance.

Grade 5/6

For International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), the 5/6 cohort read several picture books that included people with different kinds of disabilities, and had discussions about the barriers that people face in a world that is unfortunately not built to include everyone. We discussed the ways in which CNPS is inclusive, such as having social stories and low sensory hours for events, the beanbags and a quiet area to go to, and the beautiful library space that Kim maintains for us and opens up at lunchtime. We also watched videos which showed different ways to be inclusive, and one in particular, which showed an incredible mouth and foot painter, Tom Yendell. We then had a go at doing this ourselves!
