Sustainability
Welcome Back to 2025!
This year promises to be a big one for Sustainability at OGPS! đżâ»ïž
A huge congratulations to our 2025 Sustainability Leaders Zoe and Ruby, who will be championing sustainability initiatives across the school.
Â
Over the next few weeks, classes will be discussing the amazing things we already do to keep OGPS sustainable. Students will also brainstorm new ways to make our school even greener.
đ What We Do at OGPS to Stay Sustainable:
â Nude Food: Every Tuesday, we count the number of students with âNude Foodâ in each class. The winning class receives a special plant to care for during the week!â Â Waste-Free Lunches: We take any rubbish or leftover food home at the end of the school day.
â Â Designated Eating Areas: We sit in specific spots during eating time to keep our schoolyard clean and beautiful. Only a few bins are placed in hot spots where rubbish tends to accumulate.
â Â Recycling Station: We recycle a range of items, including coffee cups at the front office!
â Â Paper Waste Reduction: We use scrap paper whenever possible and recycle used paper in our blue bins. Special helpers empty these bins regularly.
â Â Active Travel: Many of us walk or ride to school to reduce car emissions.
â  Energy Efficiency: We use air conditioning and heating only when necessary, keeping them at an eco-friendly 21°C.
â Â Composting: Every Friday, volunteers bring compost to the garden space, helping us reduce food waste!
â Â Gardens: We are always busy planting and creating new garden spaces, including our Yarning Circle and veggie gardens.
Weâre so proud of the sustainability efforts at OGPS and canât wait to see what we achieve together in 2025! đ±đ

Â
Last year, we made beautiful progress in our school gardens with the addition of the Yarning Circle and veggie garden. These projects wouldnât have been possible without the time, expertise, and passion of our incredible parent volunteers.
Â
A huge thank you to parent Monica Berry for capturing these special moments of our volunteers in action!Â
